I have been taken to this hotel after finding out my booking at Malindi guest house wasn't available due to overbooking. Location of the hotel is ok and the rooms are reasonable although not clean, but acceptable for the price considering the location. Worst thing ever, however, has been the night when going back. The night guy has asked me every night he was around (3/4) to come to my room, using various excuses such as delivering messages at 2am. I have made it clear to the manager but nothing really changed and even the last day a local client shut me down saying I should not complain anymore as the guy apologized and said I had misunderstood. The place is simply unsafe for women, and it's no fun to have someone out of your bedroom in the middle of the night.

Nestled in the southwest of this exquisite island, Fumba Beach Lodge is situated only 30 minutes drive from Zanzibar's International airport in Stone Town. 26 whitewashed Zanzibari style en-suite bungalows with their own verandas are scattered along the beach ensuring private views of the ocean. Three naturally formed coves protect the beaches around the lodge and provide seclusion and tranquility. In the open air restaurant you can enjoy the exquisitely prepared fresh seafood along with a tantalizing array of international and local dishes. For day time excitement you can choose scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, Stone Town tours and lots more. Or just relax at the swimming pool or on the beach under the branches of the baobab and do nothing. With the personalized warm service of our Zanzibar staff and the tranquil atmosphere, Fumba Beach Lodge will fulfill all your dreams.
A real oasis - we loved it! We really valued the peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings and wildlife that come from being set in its own protected forest. It’s hard to find seclusion in Zanzibar but Fumba has this, as well as a lovely walking beach (good even at high tide) that allows exploration and some exercise. Our suite provided comfort and privacy. Meals were excellent, staff uniformly attentive and friendly, and Sharon, the manager provides first class advice and oversight. Great snorkelling by boat with Omar. Last but not least, sundowners on a platform half way up a baobab overhanging the beach just can't be beaten.

Lovely family owned guesthouse recently opened in Kiembe Smaki near the airport. 22 simple clean rooms with private bathrooms in a traditional Zanzi style building with lots of charm. The friendly daughter of the family grew up in Australia and knows how to make you feel at home and have a great time. Home cooked traditional breakfast included. 5mins walk to airport and beach.
We really loved it here. Before we went to Arusha from Zanzibar for our safari, we slept here one night and when we came back we slept here again since it's close to the airport. We were very happy that we came back at the same people after our safari, because it really felt like coming home after 4 days of basic camping. There were 3 baby cats that came chilling in our lap while we were sitting outside our room and the women that worked here were really interested in us and had heartwarming things to say; they loved the fact that we were speaking some words swahili and that we actually came to hang out a little bit and hoped we'd come back. Also, the coffee they gave us here was way better than all the other coffee we had been drinking in Zanzibar so far and the driver was reachable at all times if we wanted to be picked up from chaotic Stonetown (where you don't just want to pick a cab from the street since they can be unreliable). We walked to the beach within 20 minutes where we had great cocktails and a lovely last sunset at 'Sea View Hotel'.

this is definitely the WORST place I ever slept in my entire life. I've traveled around Zanzibar for a month and had a five day stop at this hotel. The first day I arrived in the afternoon, dropped my luggage in my room and went to visit Stonetown, I came back to the hotel at 11p.m. the door was locked, I knocked on the door for half an hour called every number I had but no one answered because the guy at the reception went to sleep and locked the door. So I had to go to another hotel. The next day, I came back and nobody was taking me seriously. The guy at reception was even making jokes about the situation. They gave me back the money for that and even that I had to ask for it for days. They handed me my money on the last and let me go without even apologizing. This hotel is TRASH. Not to mention that is not well located, it's in between two mosques so if you want a quiet neighborhood that's not a good place. it's also dirty, the AC barely works and even though Stonetown is safe, this hotel is quiet far from the touristic places so going in and out after 8 can be dangerous. if you're a solo traveler (like I was) specially if you are a woman DO NOT BOOK this place!
