We spent two nights in this hotel in Vila Nova de Foz Coa. It was a lovely building in a good location in the town. It was very clean and the breakfast was varied and very nice. Anyone that loves traditional buildings and furnishing would love it here but to us it seemed very dark and dreary. The lady that seemed to do everything in the hotel was friendly and helpful. She had very little English and we had even less Portuguese!! We managed very well between us. The downside was that when we checked in,she had no idea that we were due to arrive although we had booked months before. We had email confirmation and we had actually spoken to the owner by telephone. Also, when we checked out we were unable to pay by credit card which was inconvenient. I don’t think we’d stay here again but only because it wasn’t to our taste.

Even the place has a nice view, staff, building and accommodation itself isn't even possible to consider as an average. + hot water in the shower + free parking - Both receptionists were grumpy and hide themselves, especially after my persistent complaints about the door locker of my room. At the beginning receptionist came, slam the door and said locker is fixed... My room stayed open whole time, because there was no staff willing to deal with it. - wi-fi works only in front of reception - maintenance of the property is poor - since there isn't a restaurant for dinner (only some bar), it would be clever to install at least, vending machine with some snacks and sodas.

Agrotouristic family-run small hotel that exceeded all our expectations. After a long day trip visiting the beautiful Douro region, we arrived here lost, hungry and tired but then we didn’t want to leave this place the next day! Upon arriving, We had an appetizing table with tapas followed by a traditional range-chicken dinner with the family and meeting other friendly guests. Dinner was a little extra charge but very well worth it, including their family wine and foodstuffs from their own organic farm. Later, the owner and son told us about the history of their family, the farm and the area, taught us about the prehistory of the Coa valley and even took us to their barn to show us their centenary wine cellar. Later, before retiring to bed, we had some Porto at the pretty pool area. We saw millions of stars outside. The double-bed room was quite big. Everything is very clean. The breakfast buffet the next morning was very wholesome and included local farm hams, cheeses, fruits and eggs. We kind of made new friends and wish them the best. They even let you grab some grapes for the road!

I can't recommend the hotel but the location is quite handy. We arrived by bus, which stopped just a five minute walk away and the tourist information center is also close. We took a taxi for about 6 euro to see the prehistoric art and museum and then we left by train, which cost about 8 euro by taxi. We paid 60 euro a night for this hotel, which is actually on the high end of what we paid in Portugal, as we always stay in budget friendly places. The value for the stay was not great---the room is basic and clean, but they seem to do the bare minimum to make the room pleasant. We stayed two nights but our room was not cleaned the second day and since there was only one trash can our trash was overflowing. The bed was not comfortable. The shower was hot with plenty of water pressure but if you used the water at full volume water would not drain properly. Breakfast was good with a fresh pastry, scrambled eggs and quality coffee. The worst part of the hotel is the staff. The woman who checked us in at night was downright surly. The day staff was more helpful but gave the impression that we were bothering them when we asked questions. The main occupation of the staff was watching television. When we left in the morning, about 6:45 am, the lobby was completely dark and we could hardly find ourselves to the door. It turned out there was a man sleeping on the couch and we accidently woke him up and he unlocked the door. Foz Coa is a lovely town with amazing rock art and deserves a better hotel.
