Perched high upon the Picard hillside is the Award Winning Hotel The Champs. While you stay in your perfectly sited 3-star room with sea view and balcony, our smiling staff will provide you with 5-star personal service. This remarkable place overlooks the calm Caribbean Sea, the colonial town of Portsmouth and the gorgeous green hills of the Cabrits National Park. The beach is just 5 minutes down the hill. Its hospitable treatment to clients brings guests from far and wide to its welcoming doors. Combined with this mini paradise is its highly popular restaurant and cocktail bar, lush flower garden, relaxing leisure and jacuzzi area, parking lot and local shuttle service. A perfect place for adventure vacations, couple escapes, visitors to Ross University, business trips and a gem for weddings and honeymooners. Begin each day with our delightful breakfast-to-order; spend each day experiencing another island activity; end each day sipping on a cocktail gazing at the magnificent sunset.
We stayed at the Champs with our family for two nights and had a great time! The views are the best, as the hotel is on a hill. You can see all over Portsmouth from here. There is a pool with a sun tanning deck which is a nice place to hang out. We were really impressed with the restaurant as they were able to whip up gluten-free vegan food upon request. The food was delicious and quite varied. Parents of young kids will need to keep a close eye on their offspring because the railings are built with big gaps on them and there are a few tall flights of stairs near the rooms.

Found between Guadeloupe and Martinique, the lush, unspoiled island of Dominica is one of the Caribbean's best-kept secrets. Surrounded by Cabrits National Park, the unobtrusive design of this peaceful, hidden away five-star luxury resort in Dominica preserves the natural beauty and ecosystem of this stunning, unexplored volcanic island. The 151-room resort, with its breathtaking panoramic view of the Caribbean Sea, invites guests to indulge in luxury with amenities such as a full-service Kempinski The Spa, international cuisine at 4 restaurants and bars, and a state-of-the-art fitness facility. It also has two floodlit tennis courts, 4 sparkling swimming pools, and meeting space for executive retreats and intimate weddings. The resort is on the doorstep to the island’s matchless natural attractions, and is committed to protecting the authenticity of this pristine eco-tourism paradise while offering an enriching guest experience that strikes a natural balance between land and sea.
I spent three nights at the hotel and it is as stunning as the photos. Upon arrival the check in process was smooth. The room beautiful with a very soft and comfortable bed. I absolutely loved how quiet the hotel was. The handwritten notes and complimentary bouquet on my birthday made me fall in love with the hotel for sure. The food was great. The only issue with the hotel is that there isn't as much food readily available and it's on the more expensive side. However service and quality was great. I would recommend a stay at the Cabrits Kempinski for sure, it's a beautiful establishment deserving of Future success.

Picard Beach Cottages, being & healing with Nature. The only Beach Cottages in Dominica where you literally step out of your cottage and onto the beach. Where you are literally 25 feet from a dip in the Caribbean Sea. Where you can sit on your porch and watch your children play safely in the sand or experience some of the most amazing romantic Sunsets. Where you HAVE to walk among a profusion of flowering and fruit trees and shrubs and our 500 year old Samaan Tree all vying for the attention of the countless birds just to get to your cottage. Where your locally built accommodations celebrate traditional 18th century style wooden bungalows which would have speckled Dominica's coasts and villages in those days. Where all the Team are just naturally sweet and courteous and really happy to be here at Picard Beach Cottages to be able to host you in Dominica. And where the owners are 100% local having spent 41 years and now 3 generations working as Pioneers of Dominica's Tourism Industry. As recipients of the Responsible Tourism Award in both 2012 and 2013 we continue to work in all aspects of our operations to be guardians of our heritage through various community and environmental activities and mentor-ship programs. Nestled on the shores of the old Picard Coconut Plantation on the North West coast of Dominica, the Nature Island of the Caribbean, fringed by Dominica's longest sandy beach, Picard Plantation is just south of Portsmouth and Ross University School of Medicine, in a quiet suburban area originally called Ayohayo by the island’s first settlers, the Arawaks. Our eighteen one bedroom en-suite air conditioned hardwood cottages each contains one queen bed, bathroom, kitchenette and living/dining area and private veranda. There is a daybed in the living area, a TV with over 50 channels of Cable television coverage, free wireless internet and iron & board. Due to our strategic location you may choose to spend your time relaxing on our beach or in the gardens but we are also ideally located to take advantage of many of the natural attractions and restaurants in the area. We can arrange them all for you, these include; Scuba diving and snorkeling, whale watching, visiting the Cabrits National Park, taking a ride up the Indian river, where parts of the film, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 11’ were filmed (a number of the executive crew members of the movie were also our guests), Bird Watching at the Syndicate Forest Reserve, visiting the Carib Model Village & Territory or anything you would like to do on the island. Our Wellbeing Pavillion is situated in our forested paddock where Pilates sesions are booked by appointment or various retreat sessions and meetings are held. Our therapists offer various health & beauty treatments by appointment for our guests. At Picard Beach ‘Wellness Eco’ Cottages we offer wildlife & adventure tours, Scuba diving, honeymoon and wedding packages and invite our guests to join in our wildlife preservation and environmentally sensitive operations and projects. Le Flambeau Restaurant & Beach Bar is situated right next door on the property of the Portsmouth Beach Hotel where meals and snacks and of-course beverages are available from 7:30am to 10pm while there are numerous other interesting places to eat in the vicinity. Many neighborhood taxis can take you around Portsmouth, Dominica's second town, should you wish to do some grocery shopping, if you choose to rent a vehicle, we can assist with all these arrangements too.
I’ll start with the positive: location is convenient and proximity to the beach was a plus. They had daily housekeeping which was appreciated. Now onto the bad: The price point of $220 USD per night is absolute robbery for the quality of these accommodations. This should be no more than $80 per night based on what we experienced. The cabins are poorly constructed with actual cracks in the exterior where you can see through to the outside. Plumbing and electrical work was installed in a very shoddy manner (cracked tiles, discolored grout, an actual panel was cut into the wall to fit the toilet, etc.) The fixtures and linens all look like they were from 1970. Poor quality of bedding and towels. The staff were completely unprofessional and generally unhelpful - upon check in, they misled us into checking into a smaller sized room claiming to “save us money” since it was basically “the same” as the regular beachfront room. It turned out to be cramped, infested with mosquitoes, and directly next to the restaurant. After we complained and pryed further, they came clean and admitted that they gave our original room away to someone else who extended their stay. They eventually moved us to our original room, copping an attitude with us. Other red flags: 1) the on site restaurant is terrible, don’t even bother, just walk to some of the other restaurants nearby. 2) They charged us for our stay in full upon checking in - this is not standard practice, they should only charge for your stay AFTER you check out. Bottom line: stay elsewhere in Portsmouth… I wish we had stayed at Hotel The Champs instead.

I arrived to find that the room had no facilities for tea or coffee, had a microwave that you couldn't plug in, and the room was used by students and no fit for tourists. They had a nurse who also took care of hospitality, but her main function was to keep you at the hotel for as long as possible, whilst you wait for the result of your Covid-19 test. The nurse was upset when I told her I was not staying for 5 days but simply two days for my test results, and lied when she told me that no results had been sent through. I contacted the Doctor who told me the truth, but then she refused to check if I was on the list. I complained to everyone about her and left the next day, but not before she charged me an extra $120 to clean a room that was directly when I arrived. Keep away from this place.

Kootney Resort is located half a mile inland from the Caribbean Sea, in a verdant rain-forest overlooking the Picard River and only a short eight-minute walk to the beach. Have a home-away experience with our cozy cottages surrounded by gardens and your own private lawn. Bathe in the crystal clear pools fed by the Picard River, stroll by the fish pond, or enjoy fruit from our mango, coconut, lime, grapefruit, orange, tangerine, starfruit or banana trees. The setting is tranquil and idyllic, yet the resort offers all of the latest amenities.
I stayed in a number of places on a recent holiday in Dominica and Saint Lucia, and this was by far the best accommodation. I was in a semi-detached cottage which is effectively a good sized one bedroomed self-catering apartment, with a kitchen/diner, a separate bedroom and a large shower room. All the amenities we needed were in the apartment when we arrived, except for a kettle, which we requested and was provided very promptly. The apartment is clean, modern and stylish, but substance has not been sacrificed to style. It was the only place where we stayed that had blackout blinds and mosquito nets on the doors and windows. It also had a good air conditioning unit that kept the room cool when necessary. I wasn't surprised to hear that at least one local businessperson lives on the estate; my apartment was a very pleasant place to live. The manager, Trish, has an office on the estate and responds very quickly to any requests on the phone for help. The cottages are in a beautifully landscaped estate by the River Picard. The resort does not provide meals, but it is a ten minute walk on the level to a good (and sensibly priced) local restaurant/bar that opens six days a week and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is a walk of about 25 minutes into Portsmouth. If I was staying in the north of Dominica, I would certainly stay here again.
