Isleta El Espino offers a respite from the dusty road and, with only five guest rooms, the quiet serenity of a private island. Birds, monkeys, breezes are the soundtrack of the islands. The lodge features a swimming pool, yoga platform, massage facilities, intimate bar, and dining. El Espino is just minutes away from the historic city of Granada and an array of activities including hiking, boating, horseback riding, dining, shopping, and exploration. El Espino is off-grid with power courtesy of the sun.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel for one night and can only highly recommend it. The room was lovely and had a lot of beautiful details. The staff of the hotel was highly professional and very friendly. The hotel was built and is managed completely by locals, which makes it authentic. Kayaks for discovering the shores of the island and the lakes are included. Many birds visit the island and you can book a lake tour with the hotel for further bird watching and wildlife in general. We did not know a lot of birds beforehand but got really nice insights from the knowledgable guide. Even though, the hotel is in the upper price range for Nicaragua, the price-performance ratio is very good. Especially, if you consider what you would pay for such a service in Europe.

My partner and I LOVED Jicaro Island Lodge. We loved the room. We loved the food. We loved the kayaking. We loved the tours. And most of all, we loved the people who worked there. Well, maybe not, maybe most of all, we loved the fact that they would bring us coffee and munchies every morning!! Only kidding. Everyone was great! Had we known that the pandemic was going to turn life upside down, we would have stayed an extra week. I have traveled the world. And, unless you are looking for big city and lots of nightlife, you can't beat Jicaro. To all of you who were there last year, I hope you are safe and we will see you again after the nightmare ends! Thank you for all you did to make our trip special.

We stayed here for two nights in January. It was our first real stop at the beginning of our trip and a gentle, easy introduction to Nicaragua. When you book to stay here, you get the island to yourselves, no other guests, just you and the staff. The price is very reasonable and includes transportation, all your meals and two private tours through the Isletas. I am surprised more people have not taken advantage of this little gem. The island itself is small. You can walk around it in three minutes. But the grounds are lovely and the swimming pool a delightful place to cool off in the heat. The hammocks were great. Our room was big with a wardrobe, a nice bed and bedside tables. The bathroom is small and there isn't hot water but that wasn't a big deal. There is no wifi and electricity only at night and in the morning. Francisco, our boat captain, was delightful. He took us on two long trips through the Isletas, showing us the highlights and even his home. He was so patient with our lack of Spanish. The ladies who cooked and did the rooms were pleasant, although with our total lack of Spanish we didn't interact with them much. The food was excellent...typical Nicaraguan meals...breakfasts of fruit, eggs and Gallo pinto, big lunches and dinners of grilled fish and chicken. There was way more than we could eat. We stayed here as a couple but it would be a great spot for a group or family. There are lots of rooms and you are treated royally. It would be a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Granada. We thought we had found our little slice of Paradise!

I went with my wife (she badly wants to go) to this hotel for the New Year Party. But surprisingly instead of NY party it was celebration for children. At the dancing room there as about 17 kids and their parents, plus a "cheap" magician for kids came and expend two hours entertaining the kids as if the party was a Pinata. Our expectations for the party, as dancing, grapes and champagne went away to be seen the children be distracted .What a disappointment for my wife and I. Also the card-key at my room did not worked, the towels and pillows has a bad smell, no internet available. Food was good, and the waiter Roberto were excellent as well the AC. The access road to the hotel parking lot is very bad.

This is a small island with a modern property... completely self-sufficient for electricity and water systems. It's designed to accommodate two small groups of guests at a time, or one family of 8 people. The staff cook and tend to your needs and the private boat provides transport to the mainland whenever requested. 360 degrees of paradise!

A most artistic and imaginative couple created the landscape architecture and built this island resort. The environment appears to be totally natural and green. They take great pride in being superb hosts. They taught the cook to create unique and tasty meals. The kitchen cooked fresh fish straight out of the lake for very tasty lunch. The boatman was most helpful and vigilant. They created a beautiful moonlight dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. We are very happy with the experience.
