Ordered the lasagna with fries and chicken curry. Lasagna was dry, clearly had been microwaved and the fries looked and tasted a day old. Didn’t eat them after the first hesitant taste… the curry was watery but at least had some flavor. Not a good day for their kitchen but won’t be back to find out if it was a one off!

Although this hotel retains the look of an old coach house, it is very tired indeed and in desperate need of a lot of renovation work to the rooms/bathrooms to bring them up to an acceptable standard. Saying that, the rooms and linen were clean. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly, helpful and looked after us very well indeed. Over the 5 nights we stayed, the food was excellent each night.

We stayed here in 2018. This is probably the worst B&B we have ever stayed in . The welcoming was cold and uninviting. We were shown the dining area which was piled high with stuff everywhere on the dining table on the chairs , everywhere looked like a car boot sale . Also in the dining room was the dogs bed/ settee. We were shown our bedroom which on first glance did not look too bad . After unpacking we went to find some where to eat . I did not want to stay from the very beginning because I had some reservations about the untidiness of the place. However we settled after tea to get some sleep . The room was freezing and had a small oil heater plugged in. The next morning all the windows were fully condensates up so I got some tissues to wipe them on doing so the tissues came away absolutely filthy. Along with there were big gaps in the frames jammed up with cardboard to stop the rattling. Breakfast was a complete fiasco. I could not face anything only a piece of toast and a cup of coffee. All the way through breakfast the B&B owners sat across from us and the lady never stopped talking. We could not wait to get away from The Old Station House ,never to return.

We stayed at South Buckton in the last week of June and we loved it. Despite my fears about the proximity of the main road, the room was peaceful and we weren't disturbed by the traffic at all. We had the room with THE VIEW - spectacular when the weather is good - and we also enjoyed watching the animals in the field next door. John's breakfasts are the best I've had in a long time and I stay in hotels every week. Our bed was the four poster and it was fabulously comfy. The room was spacious and we particularly appreciated the big red squishy sofa. South Buckton is a bargain and may force you to reevaluate your preconceived ideas about B&Bs - there no chintz and no crocheted toilet roll covers to be seen. Well done John and Carol - we had a great time.
