Cape Escape Adventure Golf is a great mini-golf course. Fun for all ages, relatively simple but varied holes, and the bonus of free fish food to give to the koi in the fish pond afterwards. But IN ADDITION, Cape Escape has a truly great bike rental across the street under the same management: Mike's Bike Trail Rentals. If you want to rent a bike, Mike (really it's his name) runs across the street to help. I was there with my two granddaughters, the younger of whom was not yet steady on a two-wheeler, although well old enough (just a city kid without practice). Mike was fabulous,taking time to help her choose a bike that fit her perfectly. He also helped the girls to adjust their helmets (which he provides). I had chosen Mike's Bikes, after playing miniature golf, because the large parking area next to it gave us a chance to try the bikes before heading to the Bike Trail, which is close by down the road. Our first excursion to the Bike Trail was taken up with a lot of trying by the younger girl (and with the older girl simply riding back and forth between the Orleans rotary and Snow's Hardware on the Bike Trail). After about an hour of this, the younger girl got the hang of it, but we were all done in. So we took the bikes back. As the shortest rental is 4 hours, I asked if we could come back later in the afternoon and take them out again for a bit, and Mike readily agreed!! He says he likes doing this for families, as it's often helpful to go off and take a break or get lunch and come back. I've been going to the Orleans area of the Cape for about fifty years, and I've always rented bikes in downtown Orleans right on the Bike Trail (these bike rentals are reviewed in Trip Advisor). Because Mike's Bikes is tied to the miniature golf course, it's not separately reviewed. But the flexibility and genuine helpfulness of Mike's Bikes is not to be found elsewhere. Furthermore, it's open until 9 pm (the other bike rentals close at 5), so it's possible to go at 5 and get a good long ride in during daylight hours when the Bike Trail is not so crowded. Mike's Bikes is great for families, but also for adults who might like an evening bike ride. And unlike the miniature golf, it takes credit cards (can't explain that). I give Mike's Bikes my highest recommendation for bike rental in the Orleans area.

We had a long day driving to the Cape from the Hudson River Valley in NY and a longer afternoon setting up two campsites with three tents. By the time we were done we were famished and googling nearby restaurants. When we pulled up to a bowling alley we thought for sure we were in for a dismal meal. Since the restaurant is so small, it took a while to get a table for eight but the guys were happy to score local brews. The kids enjoyed watching two lanes of active candlestick bowling. Once seated we got right down to ordering appetizers including pulled pork poutine and chicken wings. Before we could devour our large portions out came the entrees including Mac and Cheese, dry rubbed ribs, combo meat trays, wedge salad, sausage gravy and biscuits and chicken and waffles. Never, ever, would I expect such amazing BBQ in a bowling alley on Cape Cod no less. I haven’t had food this good in the Deep South where we have family in the biz. Our servers were amazing. Our food came out so fast it was as if they knew we were coming. Everything was perfection. How gratifying for me to see my ten year old finicky eater grandson totally decimate his rack of ribs and then help others with their meals. I can’t wait to return here. The biscuit and gravy has invaded my dreams. My Mom used to say, “never judge a book by its cover” well never judge BBQ in a old bowling alley. I guess I’ll have to head East from now on when I want amazing BBQ. Great job Alley.
