My wife and I had a wonderful 5-day stay at Barekal. Mr Vikram and his team were very warm and welcoming during our trip. Ashoka, was always available to meet any requests we had. The food was healthy, hearty and close to nature. We loved the delicious filter coffee and the kashayam the staff provided on cold evenings. The various payasams at the end of the meal were a treat. It was a wonderful surprise when the staff arranged a bonfire dinner for us, not once but twice during our stay. The hotel is about an hour away from Shimoga town, and about an hour and a half from Jog falls, but there are many places to visit close by as well. We were taken on a guided walk around the farm and we visited Nagara Fort, Devagange, Aghoreshwara temple in Ikkeri and several dams. Don't miss the boat ride in the Saravati backwaters. I forget the name of the person who took us on the ride, but it is a wonderful experience. Enquire at the hotel for information about this.

Utopia Farmstay, Nashik is a waterfront property overlooking the serene Gangapur Lake on one side and the majestic Sahyadri mountain ranges on the other. The 10 cottages for guests, aesthetically designed with pure seasoned teak-wood sourced from the waadas of Maharashtra. Each room has been painstakingly decorated with authentic tribal (adivasi) artwork, to give you a feel of an actual village home from the heartlands of rural Maharashtra. In addition to the guest cottages, there is a reception area and a special outdoor dining enclosure. An organic garden occupies a corner of the premises. Presently, due to COVID, we are accepting only long-term bookings (workations) for guests who are looking to work outside the city amidst nature.
The minute we stepped out of the vehicle, and were greeted by the host who walked us right up-to our room , we knew we were in the right place. The room with its wood work curated and crafted by the host himself over many years of travel we hear, lent a feeling of us being part of times we only read of in history books. Many of them antiques in their own right the earthy interiors are tastefully done. The freshly cooked food from the hosts personal kitchen, made from vegetables grown in their own farm, sprinkled with utmost care for the guests palate was special to say the least. The view starting with the lawn, going past the vegetable plantations reaching out to the lake in the deep with the hills giving it cover is a sight to behold. The sound of steps on the gravel, accompanied by the bamboo chimes, with birds chirping in the background and an occasional shout out by the 2 little farmers kids formed sounds that can only be heard in silence. All in all a lovely place for a break for those who love the charm of a farm
