A scenic drive along California's Pacific coastline offering beaches, historic lighthouses and old-time fishing villages.
Great cliffs, fog and quiet mark this coast. It is cold and chilly, even in August. Yet it is a must see so one can step back in time to how California used to be. A bonus is the trip up through the Anderson Valley Wine Region on the way to the coast from the Bay Area.

A beautiful estuary in which to observe nature.
We walked down to this area where the river meets the ocean. People were surfing, paddle boarding and boating in kayaks. The beach area was immense.

A perfect river for first-time canoers or kayakers since the waters are calm and non-threatening.
We stayed at a place where our view was the river and the ocean- magnificent. We went kayaking on the river and had a picnic lunch. Lots of fun! The river was very shallow at one end and we had to get out to walk the kayak to a deeper place. When we went toward the ocean, it was super.

Lake Mendocino is located in the northern coast range of California where redwood forests meet the wine country. Created by the construction of Coyote Dam on the East Fork of the Russian River in 1958. The dam, built and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provides flood damage reduction, water conservation, and hydroelectric power. The lake also provides many recreation opportunities.
