The room at the GSR was very nice, clean and friendly feeling, bed was comfy. At the front desk Lexx met us with a smile and a friendly greeting, he helped us resolve a small issue, cudos to him... would be a great host, hint hint... We love staying at GSR, everything is here.

Luxury mountain resort located at the base of Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows, five miles from the shores of Lake Tahoe.
Check in wasn't very smooth. There was an issue with my reservation dates and seemed to be too much for the check in staff to handle. Had to return later to involve a manager to resolve. I was told I could return as often as I'd like to obtain the small bottles of water, however on one particular day again seemed like it was too much for the front desk staff to handle like it was a bother for them. Had inquired with concierge about the schedule of activities that were on a calendar of events at the resort that was provided to us upon check in because it would indicate times but not locations, however the concierge wasn't even aware of the schedule so had no idea of the activities or their locations so we never did find Bingo. Was always wondering if the other things were going on. Upon check out there was an issue with my bill as far as inappropriate/inaccurate charges, however again was too much for the front desk to handle and they requested that I email and or call back later to discuss to resolve. I have since emailed and am still awaiting resolution. Highly recommend some serious training in customer service for front desk personnel and or have a manager on site out front that knows what they are doing to assist with these issues. We were only there for 3-nights/4-days and although it did rain the first day we still enjoyed as much as we could of all of the resort's and local area amenities going to the pool/jacuzzi, going hiking and biking, eating at all of the restaurants on site, and most importantly the best experience spending an afternoon at the spa. Was disappointed that the the pool side bar and restaurants were not open very often or very long. Was disappointed that the coffee shop was closed down for renovations. Was disappointed at the very high prices of the the restaurants at the resort. I understand the pool was supposed to be heated but it obviously was not. It was freezing cold. Spent most time in jacuzzi as did everyone else. Understand the water slide was supposed to be open certain hours of the day but was not and was later told could ask someone to open it up if we wanted to use it. It also appeared that there was a serious challenge with lack of staffing. For example we made a reservation at Six Peaks as we were directed to do saying they were booked so had to squeeze us in late, however when we arrived there that evening we appeared to be the only ones in the main dining area. The bartender was the hostess and the waitress.

Terrible stay!!!! We have stayed at this hotel several times over the years! NEVER had issues and always treated lovely and suites very well maintained.. but May of 2022 has ruined it for us. Service and quality has really degraded. Arrived 35 minutes prior to the 4pm check in. Reception offered two “views” city or pool. We asked for her recommendation and she said city balcony was the way to go! First mistake! She said half of our 2 bedroom was available and the other would be at the 4 check in time as it was finishing being cleaned. At 4:30 went to check on the other portion of our suite and was told it needed repairs. 5:00 walk to the other door and knock and repair man said he was finishing up. Finally got into our full suite at 5:15!! Over an after check in time! Second issue! Suite issues: refrigerator door did not close properly, wine (hopefully) splatter on laundry doors, giant wet spot on carpet, bathroom doors didn’t lock, hair in shower, broken window (didn’t slide properly and darn near took a finger off), slider to balcony not locking easily making it impossible for me to lock/unlock myself (small children make this a major safety issue), “city view” was of the valet and bus station (LOUD NO view horrible!), people below us were smoking (cigarettes/weed) most of our time we had to open windows or be on recommended balcony, fire place didn’t stay on, and the last THE MATTRESSES!!!! Terrible. Might as well have been sleeping on the floor. 4 awful nights sleep for most of the family, which alters the relaxing Tahoe vacation we are accustomed to. Pool area seems to be more of a party feel on the weekends apparently, that’s new. Very loud music from an establishment within Heavenly Village. And large groups staking claim to fire pits and picnic tables most of the day to prep for their large gathering in the evening. At this point it’s Hyatt at Incline for us, or Edgewood’s new villas!

Poor service and mediocre food. One example of many - Had to wait more than an hour at the restaurant for breakfast only to walk away with a grab and go bag with one parfait, one fruit cup and 2 crescent rolls for a family of 3. When asked if we could at least get some butter toast we had to wait another 20 mins only to get this- see picture.
