This is both a popular campground and a nature preserve. The campground is not plush, it has all that you need, and the location is great. We visit here more for the nature walks. We recently visited the Many Springs Trail, and had great views of the mountains along with so many kinds wildflowers we lost track.

Most people access this gorgeous valley from the Trans Canada Highway via Highway 40, just east of Bow Valley Provincial Park. At that turn-off is a casino resort and gas station there with a Tim Horton's. Most of the attractions in the valley only have pit toilets, so for the squeamish, a stop here might be critical. Highway 40 follows the Kananaskis River (a popular white water rafting and kayaking river) to Barrier Lake, where there's a terrific Info Centre. If you've not been up this way, do stop here and let the experts guide you further, based on what you're keen on experiencing. There are tons of activities, campgrounds, hiking trails, view points, golfing, picnic areas, and it bit of shopping and posh accommodation in Kananaskis Village. If Banff seems a bit pricey to you, this is your valley, as it's hard to spend money here (except at the Village and golf course). There is a nice gas station with flush toilets / ice cream store / grocery store down the valley at Fortress Junction, nothing pricey here. The Peter Lougheed Info Centre is worth a stop in itself, with a nice museum, and a place for indoor picnicking if the weather isn't great. They also have experts there to advise on what to do in the park.
