First experience. The food was ok. Nothing to fill up on. The good drinks were not free but cheaper than the bars in the concourse. Nice to spread out and relax with outlets. Always wondered what airline lounges were. Now I know.

United Airlines Club Lounge

Reviewed By The_Loup_Garou - Phoenix, United States

Over the years, we have used every United Club at IAD, and going back to when they were called “Red Carpet Clubs.” Though we do not connect as often through IAD, as we once did for International flights, we are in the airport about every 2-3 months, for business in downtown Washington, DC. The United Club on Concourse C is one of our favorites, but partially because more of our flights go out of the C Concourse, than the D Concourse, or the A Concourse. On this December day, we were flying to SFO (instead of home to PHX), and stopped into the Club for a few glasses of Champagne, especially as we knew that our IAD-SFO flight would only have Prosecco, even in First Class. Though flying out of D3, we usually head to this particular Club, as it is so friendly, and really convenient to both inter-connected concourses.. Now, at the United Clubs, there is a “complimentary alcoholic beverage list,” but then also a “premium alcoholic beverage list.” Going back some years, before the United and Continental merger, the United Clubs had a dire wine list, and the prices were not at all justified by the quality of the wines. For almost 5 years, I had been campaigning for the United Clubs to offer better wines, and charge accordingly. I had encountered such at the United Club at SEA, where they had many local wines B-T-G. That had impressed me, so I began a letter-writing campaign to UA. It was at this very Club, that I got notice that United had listened to me, and likely many, many more. When we had walked into the club, the hostess knew of my campaign, got up from her desk and led me to a new sign, announcing “Premium Wines” at the UA Clubs! This Club holds a special place in my heart. We arrived an hour and a half, before our departure, were warmly greeted by the hostess (not the same one, from the “Premium Wine” experience), and took our seats in the bar area. In moments, we had two glasses of the Moët & Chandon Champagne in hand, some savory snacks, and a few cubes of Swiss cheese & crackers. We were all set. While this Club is small, and a bit darker, than some of the newer ones, the staff is really what makes it a “retreat,” from travel stress. There are business services, but on this day, we did not use any, nor the United Customer Service, but I did find a new copy of “Global Traveler” magazine, and my wife got to charge her phone from the AC outlet built into the table between our chairs. As she had been on conference calls, all the way out to IAD, she needed this, and it was convenient. About the time that we had finished the Champagne, and the cheese, it was time to make our way to D3, for our flight to SFO. A nice, friendly Club, and with special meaning to me.
