A chance encounter led us to spend hours at this sanctuary in the company of Clive, his sister and his wonderful team (plus dogs, ferrets and wild barn owl). It’s wonderful to see beautiful birds of prey up so close but even better to see how well cared for they are by a man who is devoted to their well being and conservation. His team share his passion and made us so welcome- it was a struggle to leave them and the array of birds. Each bird has a fascinating history with some heart warming rescue stories. All the cares in the world evaporate here. If you love birds of prey and want to see them in the best possible conditions then go to Wheatley Birds of Prey Centre. Thank you for a terrific experience today. Rachel and Duncy

Waterperry Gardens - eight acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, including rose and alpine gardens and one of the country's finest herbaceous borders. Plant Centre, Garden Shop, Gift Barn, Gallery, Rural Life Museum and Teashop for home-baked lunches and cakes. Events throughout the year and arts, crafts and gardening courses.
Lots of seperate planting, garden areas orchards, island beds, herbaceous border, alpine garden, formal. Lots of things to see however i feel areas could have tended better as the garden seemed to be forgotten in areas. The cafe/ tea room was delightful with good gluten free choices. Free car parking. The toilets for the whole site were available in the car park. Once paid and in the garden you had to leave to access the toilets however you coud re enter by showing your sticker but it was a inconvience when right at the bottom of the garden/orchard.

I have lived near the mill for more than 40 years. It seemed sad and almost derelict when I first saw it, but now the beautiul cap, new sails and fanwheel are in place and the machinery restored so that once again grain can be ground. The mill is only open one day a month May-October (2 last May), so you have to plan or be very lucky. Coffee and cake can be bought on the open days. There is no charge, but donations are very welcome. You can go up all floors (wear sensible clothes and shoes!) and out at the top, where there is a splendid view. There are people to explain what you are seeing. I recommend a visit to their web pages before you go. The lane it's in may have lots of puddles, especially from the Horspath end. You are probably better to drive from Wheatley itself.
