This has to be one of the best organised and thought through experiences we’ve had. Everything from the well organised sequence of shows, starting with the boat cruise, cassowary feeding, crocodile farm tour, kids show with animal petting, crocodile show, living art exhibit, excellent restaurant quickly serving interesting and healthy meals as well as the popular fried stuff, was brilliantly organised and of the highest quality. The Animal Handlers and guides were superb - giving interesting talks and handling tough questions from curious kids with style and humour. You can tell this place has been running for years and will continue to run for many more. Kids and adults all had a great time.

Rex Lookout is a highlight of the amazing coastal drive from Cairns to Port Douglas (which always reminds me of the Great Ocean Road). Not long after Wangetti you will come to Rex Lookout and will no doubt see cars pulled over to take in the amazing views out over Wangetti Beach and beyond. You may also see paragliders launching off the cliffs as this is a popular spot for paragliding tours. Do stop off for a look, it is a beautiful spot.

This is a fantastic short hike ending at a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole just off the Captain Cook Highway in Wangetti (45 mins from Cairns). I first did the hike in January this year with the Cairns Bushwalkers Club and have done it twice since. You can access the walk from a tiny carpark next to Hartley’s Retreat however there is another entry point up off Quaid’s Road behind Harley’s Crocodile Adventures (this is a longer walk for those wanting a challenge or something different, but do note that the start of the walk can be hard to spot – once you are on the track it links up with the main track about 1km from the end). The walk from Hartley’s Retreat is well signed and is 3.6km one way. It undulates with some uphill and downhill sections and is probably moderate in terms of grade. It is approximately 1 hour each way. The track goes past Flat Rock, a nice area with multiple rock pools which you may like to stop at along the way. Once you get to the end of the walk there is a short rock hop to the main falls. Bring your swimmers as it’s a beautiful spot for a dip. I recommend gong early in the morning before the crowd’s start arriving and you can get a park easily Hartley’s used to be a popular locals spot but has got rather busy lately due to posts on social media and increased word of mouth. Please note dogs are not allowed – this is a National Park so please keep animals at home to protect the landscape and wildlife.
