We had been there once before - some 30 years ago. To see all that had happened in this span of time was a pleasant surprise. The museum had got alive. You could now travel generations of street cars from danish and german cities and even one from, believe it or not, Melbourne, Australia. A track from the museum buildings lead about one kilometer to a tram loop in a forest, where you can enjoy the content of your picnic basket at tables in the free or have a refreshment in a 'miss Duesseldorf' tram from the 1960th at very fair prices. In the museum buildings other street cars, tool, models and photos illustrated the history of the past - and the future. This is to be understood that models of the light railway opening in Aarhus, second largest city in Denmark, are on display. Going there by train you have to check with the museum when they have pick-up service at the station in nearby Borup.

When you enter Sct. Bendt, you get the feeling of being in a Cathedral. The structure is cross-shaped with a central tower, typical of Romanesque architecture. It is considered to be one of Denmark's architecturally finest churches and the oldest brick church in Scandinavia and the oldest part dates back as far as to around 1170 A.D.
When the church was built, the use of brick a was a completely new building materials in the Nordic countries.
The church was built as a so called monastery church, but it is also a royal church, because a series of medieval famous Danish kings and queens are buried in the church. It is the first royal church in Denmark and you will find the tombs of many of Denmark's earlier kings and queens and noblemen (among others King Valdemar 1, Queen Dagmar and King Valdemar Sejr). Because the church is the burial church of Valdemar the Great and his descendants it is consider to be a great importance in the history of Denmark.
Inside the church there is a small museum with finds from the church, telling the fascinating history of the church.
In the square east of St. Bendt's church stands a statue of Valdemar the Great created by Johannes C. Bjerg in 1937.
