This is one of the walks we had on our to do list on our way to Lake Tekapo. We were not disappointed when we arrived and saw the fabulous crystal clear blue colour of the river. We thought this was going to be a ripper of a walk. It took us up and down the riverbank following the river and the gorge. Along the way you get some breathtaking views and photo opportunities at each turn. We couldn’t stop taking shots of the changing scenery as our walk ended at the lower gorge lookout which took us 30 minutes to reach from the car park. Had we had more time we would have loved to gone onto the upper gorge lookout which passed by the unused mine shafts of the past. This was a 4 hour return walk unfortunately. In the end we made our way back still shocked at the scenery we had already passed and made our way back to the car extremely satisfied. Well worth doing this walk if you are in the area. Make sure you have decent footwear as some of the track is rocky and loose.
