Site of Arkansas’s first post office, courthouse and land office. Davidsonville faded away close to 15 years after being established in 1815. A park with camping, lake and river fishing, trails, pavilions, playgrounds and picnic areas surrounds Trappers Lake. The visitor center features a replica 1820’s hunter-trapper flatboat, interactive virtual tour of the historic town, and exhibits that explore the history of Davidsonville and life on the Arkansas frontier. The campground has 20 (12 water, 50-amp electric, sewer and 8 water, 50-amp electric) campsites.
This is the best kept secret in Pocahontas. A very nice visitor center with individual hand held info speaker. Groomed walking trails that take you around old town markers and cemetery. Campground with camper and tent sites. Lots of programs offered. Cute gift shop. Well worth a visit.

The Herron Center is a museum and community center for the local African-American population and does a wonderful job of preserving and displaying the life of the community and the old building that was once their church, their school, and their gathering place.

Our museum provides learning experiences in the form of history tours of the city and county, lectures, programs and exhibits about our county's history, partnerships with the schools to provide educational programs and a variety of other cultural and historical activities.
I stopped into the Randolph County Museum after grabbing lunch on the square. The museum is in a couple of old historic buildings on the square. The whole downtown is on the register of historic places and is one of the best complete downtowns I've seen. The museum is a varied collection that includes medical, civil war, trains, local history and a complete muscle shell button factory ( small scale). There is also a 7 foot 165 pound alligator gar on the wall that was caught out of the Black River years ago. Admission is free and the lady working was very friendly and informative. An hour is plenty of time to see everything.

These histogram sites are a rare gem in Northeast Arkansas. The buildings were fully restored using original practices and are excellently preserved. Their historic significance is essential to understanding life in 1800s rural Northeast Arkansas. They are completely work the drive!

We drove around the town square to see the architecture. The most interesting find was the former Randolph County Courthouse on the town's square in Downtown Pocahontas. The building is quite beautiful.
