We knew nothing of this place and of the great artist who inhabited it, Eva Ryynanen, until our B&B owner recommended it heartily. And indeed, practically in the middle of nowhere, sits this humble abode which discloses nothing of its precious content to the hurrying eye –but then, the workshop… and the church… Oh, do go there, and do spend more than the 40 minutes we had to spend. It is truly worthwhile.

Been going here since i was a child, it havent changed a much. I love to go there with my grandma, who lived on those times so she could actually tell me why and whats for everything was or was done. Theres a lot to look at, lots of old items.

Wildlife watching, bear watching
If you are exploring Finland, it is worth taking the time to travel to Lieksa so that you can partake in a truly fantastic wildlife experience. The company offered to do a 4-hour round trip to pick us up from Valamo monastery in Finland (also interesting) and offered us hot soup, coffee and cake on arrival at the main lodge. We then spent one night in the hide with Eero Kortelainen, a guide who could not do enough to make sure we were comfortable, despite the language barrier! We saw three wolverines, including a mummy and babies and as it was getting dark, we heard the exhilarating heavy footsteps of a brown bear. Eero made sure we had snacks in the night and drove us back for a hearty breakfast in the morning, before giving us diplomas and taking us to the train station in Lieksa. We can honestly say that it was the best thing we did in Finland and we feel blessed for encountering such wildlife and for doing it with such an excellent company. Go go go!

The Neitikoki Rapids in Ruunaa Hiking Centre are just beautiful as well as the surrounding area and the many other rapids nearby. I visited the Neitikoski rapids and also the Haapavitja rapids and the suspension bridge. Nearest large town is Lieksa and easiest way to reach the area is by car.
There are many great walking and biking routes around the Ruunaa Hiking Center and you can also fish there.
The Neitikoski rapids is an interesting and beautiful area and there are at least two fire places.

I visited the Patvinsuo national park for the first time and it was a pleasure. I was in the Suomu Nature Information Hut are by the Lake Suomunjärvi. There are some lovely hiking routes and during summer time one can enjoy the sandy Beaches of Lake Suomunjärvi. There is a small cafe and shop in the Suomu Nature Information Hut (cash only) and you can camp in the area.
The nature is versatile and beautiful.
Nearest town is Lieksa and you can reach this place easiest by car.
