One of my favourite places in Anqing - a rather nondescript town otherwise - definitely its saving grace and a pis aller when you feel you can't take Anqing anymore and it's making you go bananas and apemonkeyshit. Place blessed by tranquility, there aren't too many visitors - so as a foreigner, you don't get hounded, waylaid and accosted all at the same time, serpentine routes, quite a tiring climb to the peak - all in all, everything you want from going amature trekking. A word of advice: unless you're a hardened trekker, do buy a two-way ticket for the cable cars;)

A small cheerful temple right next to the Yangtze River Promenade - don't miss a walk there if you're headed for the temple, which is in the very city centre, 5 mins on foot from Renmin Lu. A smaller version of their traditional temples you find China-wide - lots of small premises where people prey devotedly, lots of woodwork and red candles. You're not allowed to take pictures inside, though outside, in the courtyard no-one really cares, probably can get away with shooting inside too if you're a laowai - but that's entirely up to you and your sense of respect. i did not. Might be more interesting if you're accompanied by a local person, for my lonely experience was a bit awkward - like peeking through a keyhole at someone's preying, though people didn't seem to mind. In general, it's an interesting place, spiritually charged and well worth visiting if you're stranded in Anqing.

There are half day hikes and several full day hikes on this mountain. Charge your cell phone battery because you will be taking pictures constantly. The tourist facilities are just being built so I imagine the place will be much more crowded within a year or so. Not much to eat there right now so bring your own snacks for the day.
