Replica of Stonehenge that is created from old automobiles. Pit Stop Gift Shop is open during the summer, merchandise available in town at the Knight Museum in the winter.
Not only will you capture a couple quirky photos at Carhenge, but the gift shop offers air conditioning, snacks, a clean bathroom, and some neat souvenirs. There's also a penny pressing machine for your collection. I especially liked the complete state license plate display. I'd say if your roadtrip takes you within 50 miles of Carhenge, it's worth a slight detour.

This museum is housed in a new building in downtown Alliance,r NE. The self-guided tour of the museum begins with a short movie about the area taking in the last tow million years or more. The movie and the museum vividly depict the life of the Native Americans and first settlers in the area. It also has great graphics about the Lakota Aquafer. This is a must see for anyone passing through. Plan to spend an hour os so discovering how the settlers built their homes, raised their families, and welcomed the railroad. See early farm tools, dentists tools, and railroad memorabilia. The museum has not forgotten the Native Americans living in the area and there are many beautiful and inspiring displays of housing, clothing, decorations, and ceremonial drums and accoutrements.
The staff is not to be outdone by the artifacts displayed in the museum. They have more knowledge and are willing to share if you simply ask the questions.

This historic fountain was built by CCC in 1935. It has been renovated, and is still beautiful today. The water shoots surprisingly high, and the water patterns change. There are several benches where you can sit, relax, and enjoy. The fountain has a small park around it; it's a very peaceful place. We missed the night light display, but will have to make sure we catch that the next time.

There is something eerie about this place to me. I went with my husband and when you are the only one in that place it is creepy. He entered the funeral home area and I couldn't enter that area same with the grocery store and doctors areas. The only place I felt comfortable at was the church. Coming out of the church we looked around and decided to leave. I have no idea it the place is haunted, but for some reason we felt like someone was watching us, as we left the feeling went away. So if you are into that type of thing then this is your place, just not for me. Oh, and it's free to get in and there are people who live on the property who maintain it.

This is a community-driven art museum with a very active and enthusiastic volunteer staff. The exhibits this month were drawn from Native American collections all over the world, including pieces by recognizable names in the field. There is also a very nice sculpture garden just west If you're in the area and have had your fill of Carhenge, stop by. It's a fine attraction.
