Animal Tracks

Reviewed By theadventurebuddies - Manhattan Beach, United States

To celebrate our Grammi’s birthday we did a private hands on experience at Animal Tracks which was incredible! The kids loves the baby monkeys jumping all over us, Grammi’s favorite was the Lemur, and all the amazing pictures we got... unforgettable! But what we liked most was during the animal interactions the staff educated us about all the issues they see and what we can do about it. The kids really listened and through our experience we have sent others who also have greatly enjoyed the overall experience. Your money goes to a good cause!

Indigo Equine

Reviewed By shansmith110 - Los Angeles, United States

I just completed the “Connecting to Your True Creative Self” workshop at Indigo Equine this Saturday. I had no idea what to expect when I walked onto the ranch, and I ended up experiencing such an incredible day. 2020 has been a hard year for everyone, and this workshop was exactly what I needed to reground and get back in touch with myself and the world. I felt rejuvenated and refreshed afterwards, and highly recommend signing up for a workshop. We were a group of 3 women with our leader Andi, Horse Safety Manager Lisa, and photographer Jasmine. Master Chef Ed provided morning coffee (strong the way I like it!) and a delicious lunch on an open veranda. We had a full day of visualization and creative exercises lead by Andi. Not having done many workshops in the past, I felt very comfortable and supported by Andi (and everyone else), and I got a lot out of each activity. These exercises were interspersed with on the ground interactions with the Indigo Equine herd (currently numbering at 7 horses, 1 steer and growing). It was incredible meeting all of the herd and interacting with them. They are a motley crew to be sure, and have a lot share with their human interlopers! The day was very full, but we never felt rushed, and it was very relaxing. The ranch is just gorgeous and secluded, but only a 40 minute drive for me from mid-city Los Angeles. It was a great escape, and I left the workshop with useful tools to lean into for my day to day life (not to mention the beautiful journal, water bottle, hand sanitizer and mask that Andi provided at the beginning of the workshop!). All the activities were outside and felt very Covid safe. Everyone was wearing masks and respectful of social distancing (except for the horses!). I highly recommend booking a workshop at Indigo Equine if you are feeling a little ragged from the stresses of today’s living. Take a day to let Andi and her team take care of you – you won’t regret it!

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area

Reviewed By TravelingMerm - Monrovia, United States

We had such a blast hiking all over this area, trying to figure out all the past filming spots (tons of Star Trek, Bill & Ted, West World, Blazing Saddles, Austin Powers, the list goes on and on!!) - they were even filming while we were there haha! The hiking is incredible in-and-of itself but that makes for a fun game too! The rock formations and expansive views are just magical and absolutely breathtaking! It’s easy to get lost - the trails really are just all over the place and most of them aren’t well-marked. We even used the AllTrails map to try and stay on the Vasquez Rocks loop but still had trouble lol! There are so many offshoots and foot paths! At one point we were trying so hard to find the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail that stretches from Mexico all the way to Canada - part of it passes through here!) - but we couldn’t find it after a couple of hours!! Turns out it was right next to where we parked lol! Once you do find the actual PCT part, it’s very well marked and easy to stay on - but not so much for the Vasquez Rocks loop trial. But you are always able to see the rock formations in the background so it’s hard to get truly lost bc you can always just head towards the rocks! And we never did find the cool tunnel that goes under the 14 lol! You can also find the PCT trailhead at the entrance just next to the main sign for Vasquez Rocks outside the gates. We just happened to see it on accident! Parking is plentiful - once you get inside the gate, there’s a large paved lot by the visitor center to the right. But there are several dirt parking lots of you keep to the left and drive further down the dirt road - it’s very bumpy, rocky and dirty so be careful and I recommend driving slow - low cars are gonna scrape! They were actually filming a super bowl commercial while we were there so the main dirt lot at the bottom closest to the rocks was closed to public. The visitor center and restrooms are currently closed due to Covid. And it looks like the park itself is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. They do have a bunch of port-a-potties down in that main dirt lot by the rocks though - and they were well stocked and probably the cleanest ones I’ve ever experienced lol! Looks like they do have a lot of picnic tables scattered around too - but they were all turned upside down to discourage use bc Covid I guess? Overall a super awesome trail! It would take years to explore it all! Such a great spot for any kind of photography!! Will definitely be revisiting this place!
