The 5 Best Things to do Good for Couples in Incheon, South Korea

October 4, 2021 Matilde Konrad

Arts, entertainment, fashion, history and nature: Incheon has it all (and more)! The city is undergoing an extravagant real estate development, with a projected finish date of 2015. It also expects a large number of visitors for its 2014 Asian Games. Visitors can peruse designer shops in the Bupyeong district, enjoy events at the Arts Centre or discover local history at Liberty Park and Independence Memorial Hall. Head to the country's only official Chinatown for authentic cuisine and souvenirs. A ferry rides to the nearby islands is the perfect escape from the excitement of the city.

Incheon Airport Transit Tour

We had a 10-hour layover in Inchon Airport and discovered that they offer in-transit travelers a variety of tours of varying lengths to Seoul and other areas—even one to the North Korean border-- free of charge. We took advantage of this amazing opportunity and had a wonderful English-speaking guide who gave us much history and cultural background as we traveled through beautiful countryside and the outskirts of Seoul to Jeondeungsa Temple (oldest Buddhist Temple in Korea—built in the late 4th C—rebuilt 13th C). The grounds, with many small temples, shrines, and bells, were magical and the chanting of the monks generated such a peaceful atmosphere. There was also a lovely teahouse and gift shop. We also stopped at the Deokjinjin Fortress, a beautiful temple-like structure mounted high atop the cliffs, with amazing views of the river below. This structure was a strategic point of the outer castle wall used for defending the Ganghwa Straits during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392), the French invasion (1866), and the American invasion (1871). If you ever find yourself with time in Inchon Airport, take advantage of this amazing opportunity!
