Howe's Fishing, with locations in BIGFORK and LAKESIDE, is the home of A Able Charters and Mo Fisch Charters, providing year round fishing and is the largest charter boat operation in Montana. We operate eight boats for Flathead Lake, each comfortably seating four to six passengers, as well as one boat that can seat up to 15 passengers for fishing, cruising, parties etc. We also fish several other lakes in the Flathead Valley and on dozens of other lakes across Eastern Montana, including Fort Peck Reservoir, Tiber Reservoir, Lake Frances and more. We specialize in ICE FISHING in the winter months, our owner/outfitter Mike Howe is on the PRO Staff for Clam Outdoors and Ice Team, THE leaders in the ice fishing industry. Captain Mike is also a field Pro for Cabelas, Macks Lures, Yakima Bait Company, Silver Horde/Gold Star and more.

A popular ice-skating lake during the winter.
There are many lakes in the area, but Swan Lake is one of the best. There is a small fee to get in to the public access, but it is worth the money. Nice public beach area, picnic tables available and serene views.

Lovely easy walk on a previous old gravel road. It is flat and shady so comfortable on a hot day. There are great vistas along the way of Swan River as you are about 30-40 feet up on a hill along the river. We saw women with strollers, families, dogs on leashes, couples and three people on bikes. It is 2 miles in and out. There is a bathroom halfway and three picnic tables along the way. The only caution would be: keep a close watch on any little children running loose as it would be easy for a child to tumble over the edge down a rocky cliff on the river side. There are no guardrails. You can access the trail from above The Bigfork Inn in the City of Bigfork and Park there or you can access it along the bridge over Swan River where kayakers frequently “ take out” - parking available either end.
