Ottawa House is a lovely museum run by volunteers. Admission is by donation. The first floor has a great display that showcases the history of the house and area. Upstairs the rooms are filled with historic pieces and artifacts. We were welcomed by one of the long-time volunteers - Ed Gilbert - who gave us a personal tour. Ed has helped restore the house and made our visit with his stories about the history of Ottawa House, the previous owners and Parrsboro. He brought the history to life and was such a pleasure to meet. Hats off to Ed and the volunteers who keep this museum open.

Art Lab Studios and Gallery is an open working studio environment for five artists whose work spans from clay to ink, fabric to paint: you'll find works in oil, acrylic, and encaustic, as well as jewellery, fabric, book making and polymer clay. An excellent quality selection of art supplies is also available. In the Gallery you can view exhibitions from regional artists of note. Art Lab also encourages entry into the world of creation through its extensive workshop series. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed.
I love the variety this gallery offers, several different mediums, watercolours, acrylics, pottery and quilts. Oh I would love to have bought a quilt, but we were in a hurry to get to the Joggins Fossil Park. I wish I spent a little more time, the artist in the store was ever so lovely, very chatty and friendly. If you have the time, talk to the artist and have a look around, it was a beautiful collection of arts. I actually bought a watercolour pad, pencils and pens (limited in supply) for my own arts.

I admit it. I love dinosaurs and always have. I've dragged my poor husband to numerous sites in the US as well as the wonderful Tyrrell museum. So of course we had to visit this museum. We saw the molded sculptures of Canada's earliest dinosaurs, fossils, and the trackway of the world's smallest dinosaur. There are many displays and exhibits even of the gems and minerals of the area. My husband liked the time machine that showed how the look of the earth has changed with continental drift. Don't make the same mistake we made--we did not plan to visit at low tide so couldn't go for the beach walk to see what the tide exposed in the cliffs. Next time. We did see the cliffs at Joggins though. There is also a gift shop and clean restrooms. Enjoy.
