Bandarawela (Sinhala : බණ්ඩාරවෙල, pronounced [ˈbandarawela]; Tamil: பண்டாரவளை) is the second largest town in the Badulla District which is 32 km (20 mi) away from Badulla. Bandarawela is 200 km (120 mi) away from Colombo and about 125 km (78 mi) away from Kandy, the two capital cities of Sri Lanka. Thanks to its higher altitude, compared to surrounding locations, Bandarawela has milder weather conditions throughout the year making it a popular tourist destination for locals. Bandarawela is within hours reach of surrounding towns and cities by both road and rail. The town is influenced by its colonial history and rests among dense, lush forestation occupying a niche among visitors as a base for eco-tourism.

Amba Estate is an organic farm in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. The farm is about 30 minutes drive from Ella, perched in a small valley above the Ravana-Ella Waterfalls, with views of Ella Rock and Lipton Seat. We produce a range of artisanal teas, coffees, spices and preserves, and we work with the local community to support a variety of educational, economic and environmental projects. We offer guests the opportunity to stay in one of the old Estate bungalows, learn more about artisanal tea-making, and enjoy our little corner of paradise. We offer tours of the farm and artisanal tea and coffee production every day at 11am. The tour is free, and you can also do a tea tasting after the tour for Rs.600 per person. No need to book ahead – just turn up.
We just spent three nights at Amba Estates Tea Farm/B&B and were thoroughly enchanted and pleased. The people are incredibly friendly from staff, to owners, to guides. We enjoyed wonderful Sri Lankan meals, great hikes including one at sunrise, and an informative tour of the tea, coffee, clove, and cinnamon fields which ended with a tea tasting. We happened to be there over Christmas and loved the kids Christmas pageant. Would love to go back!!!

Indagiri Viharaya was established 1935, under the guidance of Venerable Gavarawela Pemananda Maha Thera. The temple began as a hermitage for visiting monks who sought to deepen their practice while finding retreat from the nearby capital city of Colombo Over time, the population in the surrounding area grew steadily. Today, the temple serves the spiritual needs of the local community

Dhowa rock temple is located on the Badulla - Bandarawela main road. It's a must visit if you are in Bandarawela, because it's carries Sri Lankan heritage and cultural value. It has a large unfinished Buddha statue which is carved into the rock itself. Elderly people have to be careful. Bit slippery because its a rock. Keep silent since its a Buddist temple.
