With its new open segment, the rail trail is now about 24.5 miles in length from the hamlet of Wassaic to Orphan Farm Road, on the north side of Taconic State Park. The best part about the trail is that it combines views of woodlands, farmlands and wetlands with the Taconic Mountains framing them. While there are few services directly on the trail (The town of Millerton and the Depot Deli and Bash Bish Bicycles in Taconic State Park are exceptions) there are many options within a mile or so of the trail. As well there are some great options for other activities nearby: Alander Mountain and Bash Bish Falls are two hiking options and Copake Iron Works is an interesting historical site. Or, if shopping is more your style, Millerton has fun and unique shops.
