The 5 Best Nature & Parks in Lubbock, Texas (TX)

October 11, 2021 Christa Meece

The legacy of Buddy Holly lives on in his birthplace of Lubbock, where a museum, a walk of fame and an annual music festival honor musicians hailing from the area. Its museums shed light on the agricultural and military history of the region. Lubbock's many parks, golf courses and wineries provide a relaxing break from it all. Add to all of this a hopping nightlife and Lubbock truly is the "Hub City" of activity in the South Plains area.

Prairie Dog Town

Reviewed By 6isenoughforme - Pflugerville, United States

Prairie Dog Town is located inside Mackenzie Park. It is well worth visiting. We visited on a very hot summer day and was surprised to see all the prairie dogs out. We fed them pistachios, tomatoes, and carrots. They really like dry cat food according to a man that was there feeding them that. He attracted lots of them with his cat food. There is no fee to enter and it's wide open, so safe for social distancing. It is open during COVID. A nice open-air place to get out of the house for a bit and still be safe. Enjoyed watching them play and eat.

Legacy Play Village

The Legacy Play Village is a three story, 30,000 square foot wooden playground built by volunteers from the South Plains. It has walkways that wind their way through three levels of secret passageways and hiding spots. Once you reach the top of the castle, go back the way you came, or slide your way to the bottom. Spending a day at the Legacy Play Village is free and fun for the whole family.
