On the hills surrounded by powerful mountains, and with a spectacular view of the fjord, you will find Otternes Farm. The farm consisting of 27 buildings, each with its own function, was probably cleared for cultivation before the Black Death. In addition the old cultural landscape with hills, wells, stairs and stone structure is intact. Experience old handcraft techniques and food made in traditional style. Open: 1000-1700 daily. Guided tours at: 10.00 + 12.00 +14.00 + 16.00.

We were here in mid August and were th only ones. You can walk here from Flam. We were driving and it is 1 or 2 minutes off the main road between Flam & Aurland. Spectacular views down to the fjord. We got to explore the old buildings without crowds.

We did not go to the actual basement where shoes are actually made as we were not sure if it is allowed just to go downstairs, but we highly recommend! Full of displays with information and photographs from the early 20th century explaining the history behind the local shoe making tradition!

A great museum to get an overall feel for the overall history of the local area. It's not really big, so doesn't take a lot of time. It might be free, but we think definitely deserves a donation on the way out.

At the center for local history there is an office with information about emigration. Exhibitions with local themes from culture and history. There is a photo-archive, and geneology services. Sivlesamlinga shows some of the belongings of the poet Per Sivle who was born in Flam in 1857. Extended opening hours during the summer season
