interesting modern sculpture, but you need a little background in Latvian poetry to appreciate the point. next to the beach, and surrounded by a little wall you can sit on and have a snack while contemplating how times change.

The most photographed object in Jurmala. Turtle sculpture symbolises long prosperity. Sculptor - J. Barda, 1995
This monument has become a real land mark of Jurmala. If you are visiting this city, taking photo with the turtle with the sea on the background ( or better- sunset!) is a must!

Monument - one of symbols for Jurmala (Yurmala) is situated at very center of resort town and decorate it for more than 50 years. Despite of all turbulent events this concrete statue of national hero was created in deep Soviet times - 1953, and show the highest point of Soviet attempt to rise national romance under Soviet conditions. Amazing fact - there are no traces that somewhere in national legends Lachplesis - national epic hero, fought dragon. He fought against crusaders, and there must be crusader beneath his legs. For some reason this was changed, this amuse me because just few years before creation of monument Soviet Union win war with Nazi Germany - descendants of crusaders (by their own opinion).
