Transylvania is a historical region in today's central Romania. Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended westward to the Apuseni Mountains. The term sometimes encompasses not only Transylvania proper, but also the historical regions of Crișana and Maramureș, and occasionally the Romanian part of Banat.

We love to seek out unexpected places like this during our travels and Salina Turda actually exceeded our expectations. It was great to wander into the cool cave for relief from the hot day, admire the beautiful colorings of the walls, take a ferris wheel ride, watch others in the boats or playing mini golf, and just admire the place as a whole. While much more subdued than a traditional amusement park, we loved the quiet vibe and strange experience of going so far underground. It felt like another world. It does involve a lot of walking and some stairs, so keep that in mind. There's also no food or drink options as I recall, so plan ahead for that as well. Well worth the visit though!

Very nice salt mine. You can drink a coffee or tea inside. There are activities for young children. Unfortunately, the dogs are not allowed inside. The temperature inside is 15 Celsius degrees.
