We drove from Sapporo all the way here. By the time we reached it's almost 5pm. Luckily the stay included our dinner and breakfast. Front receptionist is not that good with English but can understand. Body language is the only way we can do to communicate. We booked 2 single room. It was quite warm in the room even we opened the window. But the services and food served to us let us forget about the warm room.

If Cinderella's Castle had a Stable Annex with rooms - this would be it. Fantastic location in the pastureland of the Japan Racing Association, this is a modern hotel facility with small onsen. The rooms are good, big beds and coffee on the free drinks tray; small but good onsen, good dinner and breakfast buffet in a big, airy dining hall and best of all - free morning bus tours of the JRA site to see the home of Japanese horse racing (only Japanese language as of 2016). Staff speak some English and there is printed English info. Good kids play area, park golf etc

I’ve just finished a night at the Hotel East in Urukawa. The hotel is a standard business hotel on the edge of the downtown area. It has ample parking and is nearby several restaurants and not far from the 7-11. The rooms are small by western standards, but typical for Japanese hotels. In spite of it being mid-winter my room stayed nice and warm. I also found the hotel very quiet, most likely because of the season. Overall, a pleasant stay and Urakawa is a good stopping point between Tomakomai and Cape Erimo. At 5,400 yen ($50 US), a good deal for a night.

Friendly young owner of guesthouse. The room has a wide bed with very good mattress and feathery covers for a great sleep (it is quiet as well). Room has plenty of space for suitcase. There are wash basins in the common area and a large lobby. Internet is very good. To bath you go to the public bath in the same building (and it's included), it's worthwhile. It was a perfect stay for a fair price. Car parking is free as a perk. And if you want some noodles there is a shop also in the same building - it is all a family business :-).

The downtown location, with views of the ocean and fishing port, as well as deer wandering around town in the early a.m., is the only thing positive about this truly horrible hotel. The staff are indifferent, the rooms are barely habitable (short beds with hard pillows, bath with showerhead aimed at your kneecaps), and the western breakfast is inedible. The entire place reeks of smoke and there is heavy after-midnight traffic in the echoing halls. All in all, memorable for its amazing decrepitude.
