We traveled back in July but it would not let me put a year farther back than 2019. The food, pool, service was all amazing for our group of 6 coming out to celebrate our 30th birthdays. Will definitely come back to visit soon!

Hotel with 13 rooms and private baths, newly remodeled in late 2015. All rooms have air conditioning, Fiber Optic Wifi, Satellite TV, A/C and breakfast included. Hotel also has a 3 bedroom 2 bath cabana (apartment) with kitchen and dining room. A 2 bedroom and 1 bath, and a 2 bedroom 1 bath casita (apartment) with its own private parking. Swimming pool and Jacuzzi on site and available from 8am to 12pm. Observation decks on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor. Beach is a 2 minute walk, and extremely private! At any given moment or time there are no more that 20 people on the beach. We have shuttle services to and from San Juan Del Sur and other beach sites. San Juan has great shopping and unbelievable night life for those that enjoy an exciting evening.
First off, this is a beautiful hotel with wonderful hosts and service. The views (about 15 mins outside San Juan del Sur) are stunning with an excellent sight of the ocean. Great location. Hosts are very friendly and helpful, and the free breakfast is just right. Only downside was the room was very loud with paperthin walls, we could hear everything outside the door. Granted, there were lots of kids running around so maybe we can let that slide. Bed was okay, comforters were very light and not super comfy. TV and hot tub were not working. All things considered, this was worth it for the price! I imagine they could continue to improve.

My friend and I were walking by, and stopped in to have some coffee. We asked about dinner, and told them we were vegan. Maria said they could absolutely accommodate us, asked us how we wanted our tacos and said they would make a special trip to the market... WHAT?! AMAZING! So we came back for dinner that evening, and had some delicious veggie tacos. She even made us a special bean dip with house-made tortilla chips that were some how incredibly crunchy and chewy at the same time! THEN as we were getting ready to leave, THEY WALKED US HOME! They didn’t even know where we were staying, but the distance didn’t matter because they wanted us to get home safe! I wanted to cry because we felt so welcomed and cared about! I absolutely recommend coming here if you’re staying in Playa Marsella or Playa Maderas! Muchísimas gracias por todo! Servicio fenomenal!!

200 ft above Playa Marsella on a cliff between Playa Marsella and Playa Maderas. Close to the ocean to hear the sounds of the surf and high offering 360 degree views 40 miles: valley, hillsides, Costa Rica. $600,000 of renovations were completed in 2019 to ensure that the guest experience combines tropical resort feel with every amenity and comfort.
We're a family of 4 and are sorry to say that we cannot recommend Buddha Roc to anyone, in spite of the spectacular views and in spite of high standards. The main problem, as many others have written, is the service-level. The general feeling when interacting with the staff, is that they would have preferred not to have you there as a guest at all. Every question is met with an uninterested gaze and a hope that you will just disappear. This behaviour just leaves you wanting to get away from there as quickly as possible. But this wasn't only a general feeling. We had very specific problems. First of all, when we arrived at the hotel we immediately understood that we couldn't stay because the entry by car was so difficult. We simply wouldn't dare to go to the beach for fear of not getting back up again with our van. So we asked the girl in the reception if we could shorten our stay to just 1 night, and got the answer that this wasn't a problem at all (we had booked 2 nights through booking.com). But the next day, as we were preparing to leave, she had changed her mind, we now had to stay for 2 nights, and in fact her boss had already charged our credit card for both the nights. She didn't let us speak with her boss until we threatened that we wouldn't be paying the food and drink-bill. To the place's credit, the boss was more reasonable and we were able to agree with him. Another issue was the food availability. Since the hotel lies on a rather difficult location - after a very long and steep slope - you rely on their kitchen for meals. But most of the items on the menu were unavailable, and in the evening when we were to order dinner, they only had 2 plates of chicken nuggets left - that was all they could offer the 4 of us (and we ordered early - how did the other guests manage????) As mentioned, the location is quite off, so it is hard to get to the beaches or to visit other hotels and restaurants. You NEED a 4x4 to get around. The hotel didn't offer any services for getting around, and were not very helpful in this regard.
