You Even Get a Free Tour

This was my first time staying at a hostel and didn't know what to expect. Marilee is great and she and her staff know the city well. The hostel was clean, friendly and fun. We got to meet new people from all over the world. Marilee even gives an amazing tour of the city. After this experience, I think I might always stay in a hostel when I travel!

Photos online not an accurate representation

The photos depicted on their website are in no way an accurate representation of what you are getting. The neighborhood is unsafe, there are bullet holes on the exterior (they claim from old electrical wiring - You can decide from the attached photo) and the place was filthy. I've stayed in Hostels and never experienced one as disappointing as this. We immediately left and stayed elsewhere. When trying to discuss the issues we had we received a condescending response from Alina. We were both fully aware that this was a hostel, but that doesn't allow for there to be such extreme discrepancies between their website and reality.

Completely outrageous price for 3 nights at $1300 for one person for what it was.

Reviewed By Cheryl_Online

I’ve stayed in many hostels and BNBs. I’ve never paid over $400 a night for any hotel anywhere before. I knew it was Folk Fest weekend and if it had been nice and welcoming I would have gladly bit the bullet. However, I echo the other guests comments. I am a single person who is well-traveled and know what to expect in a hostel. However, every drawer, cupboard, etc was labeled private or there were typed instructions on everything as to what to do. ie: Hang bathmat over shower door. Put towels in this basket, Limit shower to 5 minutes. etc, etc, etc. It was clean enough but not immaculate by a long shot and yes, everything is not in the greatest condition. There were not even cornflakes or coffee offered, only tea and hot water. You had to eat on the patio but it had rained and I used a washcloth to wipe off the table. It got dirty from the rainwater and the owner went crazy. Asked me what happened and told me not to use her good towels and set out a cleaning bucket for me to use. I was flabbergasted at her reaction to a dirty washcloth. She told me she was washing it right then and to ask her if I needed anything else. The staircase is very steep and only one side of the refrigerator was to be used. There was no service whatsoever. I would never stay there again as I felt totally taken advantage of and felt like I was in a kindergarten room where everything was labeled. I completely concur with the other negative comments. I would advise staying there under any conditions. She kept texting me unnecessarily and even called my office to leave a message that she was sorry if she offended me by leaving the cleaning bucket out. I want to add that I formerly had an Airbnb and my place was IMMACULATE and we served a very nice welcome basket and breakfast. The location is nice but for $433 a night look long and hard before booking here.
