Lively Antwerp is a hidden gem. Its medieval streets, Renaissance monuments and vibrant nightlife tend to be overshadowed by its reputation as center of the diamond trade and as the world's fifth-largest port. Biking is a popular choice for getting around this stylish Flemish city. See thousands of Old Masters at the Royal Museum and Rubens House. Experience the bustle of life at the Grote Markt. Marvel at the art and architecture of the still unfinished Cathedral of Our Lady, started in 1351.

Take this little shortcut if you get the chance - and find the entrance. Once you enter the passage, all the city business and noise disappears. In summer you will find it a lovely cool spot and beautifully decorated with flowers and pot plants. Maybe come for lunch or dinner at the small hidden restaurant that serves local specialities.

The perfectly preserved Jugendstil and Art Deco houses in this street date from 1881 - 1914. Although it's not near the city center, it's certainly worthwhile to take a tram or to walk there if you want to take home some beautiful memories (and pictures) of Antwerp in one of it's many glory periods. Just a little over 100 years ago, this part of the city was still farmland; part of the Zurenborg estate of Baron Cogels-Osy. It used to be the most luxurious residential area for the rich in Antwerp.
