Really enjoyed our two days walking the trail. Well-marked, mostly, although we had navigational backup! Would highly recommend. We did 14 miles/19 miles and stopped off at the Pheasant Inn - great stopping point. Dog enjoyed - some livestock and some grouse so he was on the lead quite a lot.

A lovely local, canal side walking area. The end of the old St Helens canal, at the edge of the River Mersey. Plenty waterfowl, plenty of friendly swans in particular, that enjoy being fed. A local mooring location for many different types of boats, marooned on the old canal system, which now goes under the new Mersey Gateway road bridge. Giving walkers and cyclists miles of canalside walks, with great views across the Mersey to the Cheshire side of the river.

The view from the top overlooking the Peak District is just beautiful and I look forward to visiting again in various seasons. There’s a choice of various routes depending on your stamina. The only downside was multiple dog mess bags along the route. So many people clearly dispose of it incorrectly leaving them on benches or hanging from trees!

This is a great place for a family walk. It is an easy walk, mostly flat. There are some great rope swings dotted around which the kids loved. Would be great for bikes as lots of mud ramps etc.
