For a town that was no more than a fishing camp and a few farms fifty years ago, Port Saint Lucie has grown to be a lovely vacation spot. Port Saint Lucie is the location of the spring training camp for the New York Mets. Visit Tradition Field and see how the team is shaping up for the coming season. Then, if you love to golf, head over to the PGA Village, a 51-hole complex with a learning center and historical center. To the east of Port Saint Lucie is the Atlantic Ocean, so you'll want to schedule at least one day for the beach. Port Saint Lucie is also located just north of the Saint Lucie River, so you can explore the beauty of the river region on the St. Lucie River Princess. You'll cruise in comfort and be taken by the breathtaking scenery of natural Florida. The cruise is shaded from the sun and narrated for your education and entertainment. Cruises start in the afternoon, so you can spend a leisurely morning first. You can also explore nature on foot by hiking in the Savannas Preserve State Park. The park also offers canoe trips and guided explorations. No trip to Port Saint Lucie would be complete without a visit to Lily's Cafe. It serves great food at great prices. If you're lucky, Lily herself might be your waitress. If you're feeling more exotic, El Cubanito serves Cuban cuisine in a family atmosphere. Other restaurants include seafood, Indian cuisine, and American cuisine.

I was very skeptical when I called PGA Port St. Lucie and wanted to play the Wanamaker or the Ryder course. Ryder was closed. Wanamaker was members only. So, Dye course here we come. Extremely surprised. The Dye course was in superb, pristine condition. Superb tee boxes, superb fairways and roughs and superb greens. I have golfed all over the U.S., many private, semi private and public courses. I have golfed in Spain, Ireland and Scotland. The condition of the Dye course was right up there on with the best. Hats off to the courseSuperintendent and his staff.

Since this was the oldest course from time of the remake, it had the most mature greens. Found them to be the most receptive of the 3 courses and was able to attack the pins a bit more. While the greens were very quick, it was easier to putt and in my mind, less defensive putting or trying to make as opposed to trying not to miss. Short grass to collection areas but didn't seem to be in play as much as the other two. Bunkers seem to be placed strategically and while not always in play, were in play visually so would be in your mind. Similar to the other courses in that you should show up early to warm up (balls included) practice putting and use the short game area. Both were sub 4 hour rounds and seemed to be the busiest of the 3 courses. In my view, I would play this first, then the Dye and Ryder last and use any repeat rounds on the Wanamaker. Staff was great and also take the time to wander thru the clubhouse, lots of neat memorabilia on the walls. Well worth the visit and priced very reasonably.

In the heart of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie Trail Golf Club offers a classic Old Florida-style golf course, in addition to tennis courts, a pool, Har-tru tennis courts and a restaurant with full bar, and more. The public is always welcome. This is your home course.
Played this course while staying in Port St Lucie. We were pleased we did. For a public course it is worth the trip. Price was reasonable and the track was enjoyable. Conditions were good. From what we learned it does get a lot of play. We were fortunate as we were waived through two groups during the round and finished well under the expected 4-4 1/2 hrs. I would recommend playing here.
