We stopped here, for breakfast, on our way back from visiting Cloudbridge. Chris and Martin were gracious hosts and while we relaxed in their beautiful cafe, enjoying the art, flowers and birds, sipping excellent local coffee, our breakfast was prepared for us. The bread here is outstanding and baked inhouse. Our scrambled eggs, with tomatoes, were delicious, and I enjoyed them so much that I forgot to take a photo. An added delicious touch was the pesto, made with basil grown in their gardens. We highly recommend Garden House and plan to return frequently!

What a crazy hidden gem. My spouse and I stopped by just after seeing it on the way up to Cirripo Cloudbridge. We stopped by to see the butterflies but were too late (it was 4pm and you really want to see them in the morning) but we got food and I had the tastiest wrap (it was really more like an elaborate quesadilla) I might have ever had as well as a really good salad. They also did homemade gelato with both traditional and tropical flavors like passion fruit. We talked with the small community of kinda hippie-ish (for lack of a better word) expats that gathers around there, and they were some very interesting, accommodating, and amazing people. We ended up talking to them for a while. So we went back the next day and saw the butterflies. That was fantastic, they also sell it as an all-day pass with the idea that you'll see the butterflies, caterpillars, and cocoons in the morning and then come back later to see the progress on the cocoons and metamorphosis. The owner gave us the location of an awesome local swimming hole on the river within walking distance, and we made a day out of it that way. The place has food, dessert, a butterfly dome, a really fun playground for kids, a garden with a hammock, and live music in some evenings. Initially we thought the prices were slightly high, but just given what they place had to offer, I think they're 100% reasonable. This was a big highlight for our trip. Be sure to ask about local swimming holes as well.

Feathers Bird Garden is a carefully designed garden, where we attract some of the most beautiful birds that live in and migrate through the Cordillera de Talamanca. Tanagers, oriols, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, come to our fruit trees and bird feeders. Wether you are birder, photographer or simply a nature lover, you will love to spend hours here, taking pictures even with your phone!!

If you are in San Gerardo, the Secret Gardens is a must-stop for lunch or dinner. The food is absolutely delicious, the owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the gardens themselves are breathtaking and gorgeous. Make sure you spend enough time there to walk through the entire grounds. Bird watching from the dining area and make sure you try the empanadas!
