The 5 Best Fun Activities & Games in Kips Bay, New York (NY)

March 11, 2022 Nobuko Falco

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

Modern Pinball NYC Arcade, Party Place and Museum

Featured on NBC's TODAY show, Fox News, CNN and in The Wall Street Journal, Modern Pinball NYC is the place for gamers to rack up points on a huge selection of pinball games from the 1970s to now. This all-you-can-play arcade won't have you fussing with quarters or tokens; you simply purchase a pass for one hour, three hours or a whole day of gaming and press the 'START' button to play. Play all of the games for as long as you want including classics such as Addams Family and The Simpsons, plus new stuff like The Avengers and SPIDER-MAN. There's no food or drink in the arcade, but your pass comes with in-and-out privileges so you can easily pop out for food or drink from a nearby restaurant or pub, then come back for more gaming (10% off next door neighbor Madhatter by showing Modern Pinball wristband). This social, high-energy gaming environment focuses on clean, non-violent fun that the whole family can enjoy. Even little ones can play since step stools are available.

Cute little space with 20-25 pinball games of various eras arranged chronologically. Vibe is inclusive of ages 8 to 80 (even ironic hipsters). Daytime manager makes you feel warm and welcome, but also that she could firmly handle any issues and/or jerks. Modern Pinball makes you feel like you're in another era -- not the 70's or 80's, but a time of normalcy when mom-and-pop places abounded up and down Manhattan.

AMC Loews Kips Bay 15

I travel out-of-borough to this theater for a number of reasons. The lobby and theaters are clean most of the time. The layout of the lobby, concession stands and theaters are pretty easy to navigate and the staff is friendly & helpful without suddenly ambushing you with a bright-eyed "Disney" welcome. Bathrooms and concession condiment stations are clean and maintained well. Ticket kiosks are often operational and belt stantions (ropes) for waiting customers are positioned correctly in relation to lobby size and easy to negotiate. (The priority express line for AMC STUB members is a real plus.) There is also a VR (virtual reality) arcade in the front lobby which is great if you need to wait. LAST FILM SEEN THERE: "THOR: Ragnarok" (IMAX 2D). For best audio experience, select your seating CENTER OF AUDITORIUM. After mentioning to the manager that the audio seemed unbalanced, it was checked and taken care of before the feature began. Now THAT'S customer service. Kudos to staff & management for caring enough to work hard for our enjoyment. NEXT FILM TO SEE THERE: "Justice League".-J/A
