We only did some walking around Heisterbach, but each path led to a surprise. Although there are few signs, the paths are clear and relatively easy, for example to the ruins of Rosenau, where no one seems to dare to climb to an amazing view of the Rhine. You can feel like the painter William Turner or Lord Byron when they fist discovered the area and made it famous. Another great walk is to the quarry of the Stenzelberg mountain. The great rocks here look like an alien planet. And there are many more.

Nice tour option if you are in Bonn/Cologne area or near those. Access by car or public transportation. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes. I went there in the Summer and the view was amazing. Make sure to take the Drachenfelsbahn (rack railway) up to the top to go see first the Medieval ruined castle Burg Drachenfels and the great view of the Rhine, then go back to the railway and get off at the neogothic castle: Schloss Drachenburg, lower on the hill. I personally recommend this for Castles passionates!

The ruins of the great abbey church are on the site of the present complex, with impressive gates. It is on the road uphill from Konigswinter to the suburbs of Heisterbacherrott, in the Siebengebirge forest, easy to reach by car or bus. The ruins of the church (just the apse) provoke romantic wedding photography, at least during our visit. Nearby are great walking paths into the woods, with more smaller ruins and surprising views.
