Gengenbach is a town in the district of Ortenau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany and a popular tourist destination on the western edge of the Black Forest with about 11,000 inhabitants. Gengenbach is well known for its traditional Alemanic "fasnacht", ("Fasend"), a kind of historically influenced celebration of carnival, where tradition is followed, from wearing costumes with carved wooden masks to clapping with a "Ratsche" (a traditional-classic wooden "sound-producing" toy). Gengenbach also boasts a picturesque, traditional, medieval town centre ("Altstadt"). The traditional town Gengenbach is the proud owner of the world's biggest advent calendar. The 24 windows of the 18th century town hall represent the 24 "windows" of an Advent calendar. The town also hosts a department of The Graduate School of Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, part of the University of Applied Sciences Offenburg. The nearest cities in the region are Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden and Strasbourg/France. Gengenbach is twinned with the town of Obernai, Alsace, France.

We are a family run distillery and winery in Gengenbach - Strohbach in the middle of the black forest surrounded by some lovely orchards. We produce a wide range of traditional blackforest fruits spirits and liqueurs for which we also grow our own fruits. Additionally, we produce our own Gin, Whisky, Vodka and even a Rum. At our distillery you can enjoy a guided tour and you can sample all of our products for free. We are looking forward to meeting you!

This Rathaus is right in the prominent center of the old town, a great place for photo opportunities. The entire town can be covered in 30 - 45 minutes in one circuitous walk. A very beautiful town with excellent resturants.

We walked up to the chapel each night at dusk. Serene and beautiful. It is off the beaten path, but well worth at least a visit. You can enjoy the scenery of the entire valley and appreciate the beauty of the Black Forest

Regular happenings in the square. We were there for a wine festival and other entertainment. Beautiful place to lounge and just sit back and soak up the ambiance.
