The information on plaques was interesting and entertaining to learn about tasmanian convict heritage. The range of convictions from petty theft through to murders was varied and poignant. Harsh penalties for small crimes committed.

Gallery 81 has an amazing permanent exhibition of 81 paintings each with a written reflection. Enjoy a Tasmanian glass of wine, craft beer or boutique cider while viewing this extraordinary body of work. Talk to the Artist in Residence, Luke Harvey, while he paints. Gallery 81 offers only Tasmanian produce so why not try one of their delicious cheese platters.

Built in 1836 by British convicts transported from Britain. The red bricks used in the structure give its name, The Red bridge. The three graceful spans reflect beautifully in the flowing water.

Loved this place! Great selection of items, all with wonderful history. A little pricy but you might expect that for quality antiques of interest. If you’re passing through, this is well worth a visit.
