Known as "Cereal City," Battle Creek, Michigan is home to both the Kellogg and Post corporations. These two companies have left their mark on the city, building both office buildings and local attractions. The Leila Arboretum, part of Battle Creek's 7,000 acres of parkland, was created by the widow of CW Post, founder of Post Cereals. Post himself had been inspired to go into the cereal business after a visit to the now-historic Battle Creek Sanitarium, which was then run by John Kellogg.

This was my destination while on a fall color road trip. This was a photograph day and this park is an excellent place to get the camera out and walk around. I believe there are 5 historic bridges, including the one you drive under when entering the park. You climb up some stone steps to get to that one. There is also a tunnel, a creek that runs under most of the bridges, an interesting sculpture, a nice children's playground, picnic area, and boat launch area. You can also count the I-94 bridge over the river and the modern bridge at the boat launch if you'd like. There is also a wooden bridge you drive over at the edge of the parking lot. Lots of bridges! The fall color was peaking the day I was there and it made for some excellent pictures. Worth a stop, especially if you are into history.

What a cool market and greenhouse nursery. The produce section was outstanding. There is a huge walk in meat and dairy section, gourmet cheese section, pizza and sushi section, an entire flavored olive oil section, imported can goods, an outstanding coffee section where you can help yourself to a complementary cup of java, and a great bar if you want to shop and enjoy a craft beer while you shop! Great wine and craft beer section! There's a lot more too! You have to see this. What an amazing place!

Fascinating wood carvings at Leila Arboretum in Battle Creek, Michigan. A few years ago 44 ash trees succumbed to a beetle. Artist in an art contest created fantastic wood sculptures - Big Foot, Moose with a back pack, a castle, fantasy creatures, space, and more. Well worth a stop and the price is right - FREE.

Went for my 58th birthday won 250 in free play and that was just the beginning. A host upgraded my free room to a suite I believe his name was Anthony. Free buffet was great they have anything you could want. After all of that I won a thousand dollars playing video poker . Thanks Firekeepers for a wonderful birthday. Ken G.
