The 5 Best Ferries in Island of Gozo, Malta

March 15, 2022 Yuk Petri

Part of the Maltese archipelago, Gozo is the second-largest of the seven-island chain and basks in the Mediterranean off the coast of Sicily. More rural than its sister island, Malta, Gozo has a population of 31,000. Home to some of the oldest religious structures in the world, the fascinating Ggantija temples, the island offers dramatic orange-red sands and perfect snorkeling waters at striking Ramla Bay. Rickety buses ply Gozo's roads, making getting about the island an exciting component of your trip.

Gozo Ferry

Reviewed By MikeW5448 - Darlington, United Kingdom

The ferry crossing from just north of Mellieha Bay in Malta to Gozo runs a sleek and efficient service everyday from early morning until late evening. There is no need to book in advance, just return up and board. The crossing itself is very fast (around 15 mins) and ferries depart every 30 mins; so you never have to wait long. The walk on passenger cost of Euro 4.65 return is very reasonable. Note: you only need to buy a ticket for the Gozo to Malta leg; when travelling from Malta to Gozo no ticket is necessary just board the ferry.

Nice and easy way to get to Gozo from Malta. Operates nearly all day and night. You can sit outside on the sundeck and enjoy some drinks from the cafeteria.

We booked a private hire boat for 4 adults and 4 children. We had an amazing time. Mario was very helpful and meet us as we came off the ferry from Malta. The boat was a good size and Anthony our skipper was a great guide. The water was beautiful to swim in. Recommend you take a big picnic and lots of drink. Our favourite spot was Crystal bay as the fish were abundant. In high season I would imagine it could get very busy but October was fine. Swimming off the boat was ideal as beaches were busy. Would definitely recommend this company. Great day had by all. Three hour trip was perfect amount of time and as Mgarr is so close to Comino the crossing time was not long at all.
