Balbinny is a development of luxury self-catering accommodation, set on a family farm, allowing guests to make full use of the countryside. Built with corrugated roofs and recycled stone from the previous steadings, luxury is combined with a sense of history. Balbinny benefits from 180-degree views across the river South Esk towards the Angus Glens, and onto the Cairngorms.
Balbinny is fabulous, the second time we have stayed, this time in one of the Brochs, and we were even more impressed from the first time. A perfect week over Christmas to unwind, explore the countryside, and enjoy a breakaway. David was quick to assist with any requests or help, a great place to stay we highly recommend it.

It is a very small restaurant with only two people taking care of customers, please be mindful that service can take a little longer. We highly recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. We stayed for the last week of March into April at Elastic Cottage, beautiful setting right on the waters edge, and we were blessed with great weather for the 9 days we stayed. The estate has plenty of walks both on and off path, wildlife on the doorstep with stags a regular visitor, the vista of the sea loch is beautiful. Elastic cottage is one of the more dated ones on site, although still a very good standard with a wood burner fire, very comfortable bed and good electric shower. Also has storage heaters that warm the cottage to a good level. The boat house had been open in prior years for meals although following the change in estate ownership this was closed, which is a shame but not a deal breaker. Food wise stock up at the M&S at Fort William, Lochaline and Strontian both have co op size / style shops. We had lunch at the White House at Lochaline very very good. If you plan ahead there is a brewery by the car ferry stock up on the ale there or message them in advance and see if they can deliver, they also do cook at home pizza and breads. Lochaline takes you towards Mull, just before you get to Lochaline there is the Ardnotash estate with a farm shop for frozen local meat, excellent we had venison and lamb from there both so good. Also more walking from there! Watch out for ticks as you would anywhere in the warmer weather. Overall we stayed 9 nights and sad to go, looking forward to when we can go back!

Jacqui was very welcoming and our room was lovely and clean with great views over the bay. We were only there for a couple of days but Jacqui told us of some great places to visit. Breakfast was cooked to order so hot and delicious and there were plenty of options too. Don’t forget this is a working farm too so interesting in its own right. Great place to stay!
