- Follow in the Master's footsteps as you trace Michelangelo's tracks to the marble quarries of Carrara. Carrara is where he went (250 miles was no small feat then) to hand pick his marble for his Pieta' and from which came the marble for, yes, the David. - Nowhere in the world is like the "Cinque Terre" or "Five Lands", two of which are included in this tour; Vernazza and Manarola. These quaint, colorful seaside towns combine with the blues and greens in nature to create a stunning, scenic palette. Take this all in with both walks around town and a drive down a panoramic road. The entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. - Enjoy typical Tuscan cuisine in Colonnata, world renowned home of Lardo di Colonnata, a local delicacy of pork fat aged in marble vats. We booked a wine tour for half a day only the night before and received the confirmation following morning! The driver picked us up at our place in Siena with a very nice and comfortable car. Our driver was Roberto, who spoke very well English and is a very funny and nice guy! He could answer all our questions on Italian cuisine and culture in a very passionate way. The wineries we visited were as authentic as you could imagine and they let us try all their best wines! We had an amazing afternoon and wished we’d booked for the entire day. Wedriveyou.it is highly recommended by us and make sure you ask for Roberto!

After meeting your professional driver at your accommodation, you’ll be driven in a 4×4 to the famed Carrara Marble quarries. Carrara, located in the Tuscan region, harbors one of the most prominent marble quarries in Europe. Carrara marble is used throughout the world for a variety of purposes, and it has been dubbed “white gold” in several publications. From the first quarries, you’ll make your way to the Apuan Alps, a mountain range in the north of Tuscany. There, you’ll visit one of the region’s ancient quarries, as harsh conditions and erosion turned the surrounding mountains into the very Carrara marble for which the city is known.
