Ape Cave Lava Tubes

Formed about 2,000 years ago from a volcanic eruption, this is one of the longest lava tubes (12,810 feet) in the world.

This was an amazing experience, just be sure you are prepared. Have head lamps and flashlights, and bring gloves, because you will be climbing over a ton of large rocks, and they are quite sharp. Dress warmly, because it is always cool in the cave. I had read on other reviews that there was a 10 foot high barrier that you had to scale, but it was not quite that high. Maybe 6 or 7 feet at the most. Someone has placed a large rock at the base, so you have something to stand on, and there are a few proturbances that you can leverage your foot against, but it helps if you have someone tall who can go first and then help pull you up. Didn't see any bats.

Gardner Cave

The cave is a part of Crawford State Park about 10 miles north of Metaline Falls WA. It is about 1/4 mile S of the Canadian border so you can walk from the cave entrance to the Border and take your picture at a sign which says, I walked to Canada. The cave is tour only and only on certain days.

This was a great family experience. The cave tour was well attended and a must see! Beautiful formations and newly created slag-mites and slag-tights. It is a great trail to the US/Canada boarder just past the cave entrance.

Great quick stop! Park at Kaloloch Campground main parking lot. Take path to beach and walk a couple hundred feet and it is on the right. Note: must be able to climb stairs.
