DeBary Hall Historic Site

We decided to venture out for a day trip exploring the backroads of Florida. DeBary Hall was a delightful historical site. The visitor center has a great video presentation. The house tour was interesting and docents were very good at adhering to cdc protocols. It helped to read some of the history first.

Gemini Springs Park

I really enjoy this park. The springs are neat to see, and the views of the grounds are beautiful. It was nice that they had a fishing pier for people to fish from. People were also picnicking and playing in the fields. You can get plenty of exercise on the large number of trails, although they aren't marked very well so you can get turned around and can end up walking in circles! LOL! I came back with my bike and rode the Spring-to-Spring trail to the Monroe Boat Landing and that was a very nice ride on a well-maintained bike path. I will be coming back to this park frequently.

Sun Rail

This is a good option for people who need to get to the Amway centre , Winter Park and the hospital as they can walk from the station to the centres. The prices are very reasonable, staff are helpful and train are very clean. The problem arises when you want to travel on weekends as the train does not run then. Also there need to be some connecting service to meet the train to take you to say the Florida Mall as the train stops at Sand Lake . As such it is not yet achieving its potential as a sustainable transport option but could so easily do this with more input. Early days I suppose.

Lake Monroe Park

We are pleasantly surprised by how lovely this park is! We rented a RV from AirBNB and camped in site #10. Bring your bikes, because the bike trail is wonderful. We walked/biked the trail to Gemini Spring, which is unbelievably beautiful & not to be missed. There was so much to do! We were able to take the SunRail to Winter Park and get an amazing dinner at Bosphorous (Turkish Cuisine). The next night, we took the SunRail to Sanford and then took the free trolley to downtown Sanford for the best German food we’ve had in a long time (Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Café). The bike trail extends up to the famous Blue Springs State Park, where we saw several manatees (swimming is only allowed in spring and summer). On Friday night we drove to the night time farmer’s market in Deland and enjoyed local produce, craft beer, and good food from the food trucks. And of course, we spent a day at the beach at 27th St. Park in New Smyrna Beach. The campsite itself is kind of tucked in the back of the park, and very private. Tent only sites are in the front, with RVs in the back. Bathrooms were clean and private. Water & electricity (no sewer, but there is a dump station). The only downside was there was lots of traffic and airplane noise at night, but we kept the TV on low to drown it out (a white noise machine would work well too). At $15 a night, this place is a steal!
