If you are looking for a clean , beautiful and calm place to stay in ( esp with your significant other), this is the place. Also if you are interested in seeing an authentic everyday life, this is the place. I have to say my husband and I had such a wonderful time at "Gite du Barrage". I mean fresh air, fresh spring water and fresh chicken, eggs and fish for our meals just from the farms around and the surrounding rivers. It can't get any better than this. Well it can ( lol) the couple/ the owners were just so so amazing and sweet. They literally spoiled us. We checked out today after 10 days stay that felt like a month of rest. To fatima the owner and the amazing cook , thank you so much.

We arrived late in the afternoon, driving from Fes, searching for macaques and cedar trees and host Abdellah provided 2 locations. We also decided to eat here, based on the time, location (out of town) and a short conversation with him about Les Jardins D'Azrou's philosophy about food...similar to Slow Food (to which we belong). We found both macaques and cedars and returned at dark. We feasted on a quince/prune/lamb tagine that his sister had made. After mostly mediocre tagines during our trip it was really nice to eat an excellent one...the quince/prune combination is one of our favorites and somewhat difficult to find. The next morning we ate a leisurely breakfast that included jams from the farm and local olives and oil, and whole-wheat bread (extremely rare find). We drizzled honey from their hives on pieces of a crottin of goat cheese from a local cheesemaker. Abdellah recommended a nice stroll down the road and across some fields and we returned for a tour of the farm. On the 1-ha property they raise several fruit and nut trees, maintain flowers for the bees, and grow much of the veggies and herbs for the food. They power with solar and our room had in-floor heating from the ground heat exchange system. Irrigation is via a drip system. Abdellah delighted in showing off this labor of love. Carine was visiting family so unfortunately we didn't meet her. Abdellah is also a certified mountain guide and president of the local group so if you're looking for advice or a guide, he's the one to contact. Lovely time, quiet location and wonderful host: would definitely return.

Me & my wife were very excited to be there for the weekend, however, we were shocked to find that the service couldn't be decent at the very least. What caught our attention while having breakfast in the terrace is that the staff refused to let a pregnant lady use the utilities even if she asked very nicely, more than that : the poor woman was verbally abused by a member of the staff that tried to chase her away. When we tried to intervene, they explained to us that the administration had strict orders not to let anyone use the utilities. We decided to cut our stay short, there is no way we're ever coming back.
