In addition to serving as the site for the city's huge Museum of Natural History, this park is also home to a small zoo.
It being winter, not at its most lush, but to make up for it they had illuminated sculptures, (similar to the ones in Hoi An, Vietnam). Wow - a lovely walk in the sun via the turtles, hermit crabs, coral reefs, plenty of seating, to enjoy the park and have lunch. We popped out on the far side of the Jardin and came across one of the Wallace fountains I mentioned in passing - in fact the only one remaining of the mural model, (see review).

Thoiry is a rare example of esoteric Renaissance architecture where the sun rises or sets in the central arch following the solstices. Home since 1559 of the Counts of La Panouse, the drawing rooms offer visitors fine family portraits, furniture and tapestries presented by costumed guides. The 300 acre gardens: Rhododendron woods, Maze, Autumn, Rose, and Perfume Gardens, perennial borders give year round pleasure. Thoiry's world famous 350 acre animal reserve is open year round.
I'd been to this zoo once before and loved it (fantastic drive-through safari park and zoo, and a chateau - takes a full day) and suggested to friends that we go and see the new lantern festival while they were in Paris for a few days. It's just magical! It's like a happy dream. Beautiful lanterns everywhere, and it's huge. They've got a copy of the Beijing Summer Temple - it looks like it's almost as big as the real one. Cool light and sound show on the front of the chateau. In the gardens near the chateau there's a classical Chinese them, and then in the woods it's all animals, from beautiful butterflies to life-size giraffes, cranes, flamingos, lions - everything lit up - and there are lanterns and lights dangling high up in the trees all around. Hard to describe. Very strongly recommended to families with children, or without children. It will appeal to all ages. And in the zoo they've added guided tours in safari trucks which we'd have loved to have done if we'd got there earlier. And in summer there's a zipline over the lions! Yikes! It's great.

I love this park (I've been three times now). The bird show is so cool and interesting - the birds fly right over your head (you might feel a wingtip). The whole park is a great learning experience and really amazing. If you love birds of prey, and animals in general, go to this park.

We stumbled upon this place by accident via here on TripAdvisor, whilst looking for information on things to do in this area. This is a Zoo / Parc for Monkeys and Parrots, and is simply wonderful. All of the animals here are free in their own environment, with the Monkeys being outside in a huge wooded area, and the Parrots housed in a huge indoor and outdoor house / aviary. This means that monkeys are wandering around or on the footpaths where you are walking, and the birds are free flying around you in their own habitat. It is worth noting that the free flying birds involves large Parrots, which fly over your head sometimes, and usually very close. If you have young children or anyone else that may be frightened by this, then that is worth preparing for. All the staff here are excellent, being very polite, friendly and helpful. It is somewhere we would visit again without hesitation, and would recommend it to anyone.

Parrot World takes you on a trip to South America, to discover ecosystems as rich as they are fragile. Through the immersive routes of the Amazonia Trek and the Patagonia Trek, you will meet hundreds of wild animals, often threatened with extinction in their natural habitats. Parrot World works hand in hand with the Parrot Wildlife Foundation, an organization that participates in the conservation and reproduction of endangered psittacidae, as well as all species present in their natural habitats. Thanks to the expertise of caretakers and veterinarians, some species present in the park are also the subject of breeding programs, overseen by the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, in order to avoid their disappearance if they were to occur. extinguish in the wild.
