We all enjoyed the Dolphin show despite the commentary being all in French. It didn't distract from the spectacle, and added to the experience of being in a foreign country. It's technically free to watch as you have already paid to enter the park, and it's a great excuse for a sit down for 20 minutes.

I have only superlatives about the aquarium. It has a lot of species, the personnel is very kind and supportive and you can learn a lot about the life underwater. What I have been impressed the most of? The great aquarium in the ocean part where you can see from small fish to sharks and a gorgeous Manta Ray. The sea lions show is also very impressive. There are a lot of other parts to speak about, but I think everyone who has the chance should visit the aquarium once.

Lille Zoo

Lille Zoo is easy to get to using L1, 12 or L90 bus from Palais des Beaux Arts. A family ticket for 4 to get into the zoo costs 10€. Apparently two years ago the zoo was very mediocre so they shut and transformed- and what a transformation. It is not a large zoo, nor does it have a huge range of animals, but what it does have is a very intimate high quality experience. The zoo is really well laid out with a good route to follow in order to maximise viewing of all animals. Reassuringly all the animals have a lot of space to roam especially the armadillos, gibbons and the meerkats. There is a wonderful enclosure with exotic birds including scarlet egrets and ibis. Other animals currently on display include coatis, zebras, rhino, red panda, parakeets, owls, meerkats, armadillos, snow leopard, snakes, peacocks, gibbons, tapirs, wallabies and terrapins. If you have a spare three hours, this zoo is well worth visiting to see what a positive experience a zoo can be. All signs are currently in French but easy enough to translate with Google Translate!

Zoo d'Amiens

The entry price was 31 euros per adult. However we went to the first showing of the Birdshow and I felt I had had my money's worth already. It was quite spectacular and unlike any other birdshow I have seen in Europe. The rest of the zoo is very well laid out with plenty of shade. Lots of animals I have never seen in other zoos. Well worth a visit if in the area
