The Outer Banks of North Carolina is a 100-mile stretch of barrier islands dotted with pristine beaches, quaint towns and historic sites.
If you love swimming, kayaking, or surfing, be sure to visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. To really experience local culture, explore each coastal village and sample as much food as you can along the way. (Pro tip: Try the catch of the day.) If you’re looking for a history lesson, check out Roanoke Island or the Wright Brothers National Memorial. And of course, no day is complete without watching the sunset from Jockey’s Ridge.

Group vinyasa yoga classes on the beautiful beaches of Corolla, North Carolina, with Chelsea Miller, certified yoga instuctor RYT-200. Also offering private classes in your home or on the beach.
My daughters and I took this class while we were in Corolla for the week. The class was wonderful with Chelsea giving different modifications and options and the beach was gorgeous at 8am. I wish I had taken it earlier in the week and I would’ve taken it everyday. My only tip is that my GPS took me to the wrong place by using the address on the website. Just look for the beach across from Corolla Village Lighthouse.

Updating previous review: Love, love, LOVE this group! No issues finding enough room to move about this visit, but classes are definitely popular so either sign up online or get to the studio 10-15 minutes before class time if you want to do a drop in. With limited #OBX visiting time I prefer to schedule everything out in advance, and the 10 class pack made it easy for me to get my yoga on while at the same time ensuring adequate “spontaneous time” for the family. Also, with the numerous classes I was fortunate to meet many of their instructors, all of whom are top notch! I lost my local studio back home a couple of years ago and have yet to find a new one that is the right fit and as a result have been woefully out of practice. These yogis made me feel at ease with my rustiness, challenged yet not defeated. I feel so good now that I even took an AM SUP yoga class with them, my first one ever, and I loved it. Do NOT feel intimidated. As promised, falling in is half the fun. ???? 2016 review: Excellent retreat I have taken classes with this group in years past at their previous location and found them to be professional, skilled and accomodating. This year I indulged in several different styles of yoga: Vinyasa flow heated and standard as well as Yin; I enjoyed each immensely. I absolutely LOVE their new location: EASY to access, (compared to before), TONS of parking and there is the option for an RELAXING walk before or after class along Currituk Sound via the city's boarwalk! ???? The sole reason for my 4/5 rating is space! This group is popular so do get to your studio, East or West, 15 minutes ahead of your class to stake your spot. I personally do not like to be in the middle and quaters can be tight. ????

Ashtanga Yoga Center is a space dedicated to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of the Krishnamacharya lineage. The practice consists of a sequence of postures that integrates breath, posture, and gaze and is taught at various levels, based on the needs and abilities of the student. The integration of breath and movement creates internal heat which purifies the body and increases blood circulation. This process of detoxification brings the experience of enhanced health and well-being, improving overall quality of life. The key to experiencing the fruits of this method of yoga is regular practice over time. As time passes, the body becomes strong and flexible. Balance and mental awareness are increased. As toxicity leaves the body, the mind becomes calm and relaxed. Together, we reach a deeper understanding of the human experience. We offer weekly group classes along with private sessions at your desired location. Bring a towel as you will sweat. Water is available at the studio. Serving the entire Outer Banks area including Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Manteo, Duck, Southern Shores, Wanchese, Hatteras, and Ocracoke.
I recently attended a weekend workshop with Michelle Dorer, and it has been my third year in a row attending this workshop. The section of workshop that is a prepared talk on the Yoga Sutras, and an open community discussion, I truly love and is why I keep attending this workshop. Michelle is certainly knowledgeable and well researched when approaching the subject of the Yoga Sutras and more intangible, spiritual aspects of yoga. It is clear the subject, study and practice of Ashtanga yoga is her passion. I enjoy her unique perspective, one of significant experience, but what is intrinsically unique about Michelle's talk is that she opens the floor for discussion during points of her talk and at the end. Letting people talk about some of these deeper concepts of yoga, and what thoughts or emotions arise during the discussion is cathartic and gives you a sense of connection with those around you. Having your voice heard and feeling like you're safe to voice it, is such an amazing experience and even more amazing that Michelle seamlessly creates that environment. During her talk a presentation of the ideas are given and you are free to feel and experience some of these deeper aspects of yoga for yourself. It is significantly contrasted by my other experiences studying with teachers. I have attended many ashtanga workshops and most are from the perspective of the teacher, to impart their knowledge on you. While in part why I attend workshops, to learn, the addition of open discussion allows you to freely explore yoga concepts with others who are equally interested. There is an amount of listening, receptivity, and nurturing from the workshops with Michelle. It fills a void in the yoga community I had only acutely felt until attending one workshop with Michelle, now there is no going back. Michelle is the traditional, learned, yogi, Divine Feminine you've been looking for, don't hesitate to study with her.
